Not if they make movies like the stuff they show before the previews with the 3 friends sitting in a theatre and all of a sudden their seats transform into mossy rocks and they're sitting, In the movie.

People said the same thing about the music industry and look what happened. Look at what is happening to the book industry with the rise of tablets. Technology causes VERY QUICK and disruptive change. Before you know it established industries get knocked aside and new industries get created.

Do you know that Kodak filed for bankruptcy last year? The same Kodak that was the biggest name in the photo camera industry just a decade ago. They developed the first digital camera in the mid-90s. They didn't pay much attention to the exponential increase in technology and thought they would be around didn't adapt to the change in times with the rise of digital imaging. Instagram on the other hand just sold to facebook last year for a billion dollars. They were made up of less than 20 employees. Just think about that for a moment. :mindblown: Technology changes EVERY INDUSTRY. You either adapt or you'll be dead before you know it.

Exactly, Technology completely damaged the Retail Photo industry. Remember when you paid money to get your photos developed? Now you store them on your computer or phone so that's a huge money source of retail now gone. It's funny that we are living in this technological age yet people are still in denial how fast it's moving.

For some it's still a relevant social experience, a place you take a date to or something. You go and you spend money and buy that $8 tub of popcorn, hoes love it when you spend money excessively. It just means something to people.

Contrast that to inviting a little sweet cutie pie to the crib eating out of a bag of microwaved popcorn. You gotta stop the movie cause a roach done walked in the scene. House smelling like sweat and lemon juice.

Almost everything we do today didn't exist 5-10 years ago.

Portable digital music playing devices like the iPod only 10 years ago.
Smartphones like the iPhone only 5 years ago
Tablets like the iPad only 3 years ago.
Social media like Facebook and Twitter didn't exist 6-7 years ago.

We take these technologies for granted because we think they've always been around but they have only arrived. And the crazy thing is that even more dramatic changes in technology are here to come. Thinks like 3D Printing and Genetic engineering are set to explode in the coming decade.

I personally will be shocked if movie theaters aren't obsolete in 10 years let alone 20. Technology looks like its not moving alot until it changes everything in just a few years.

I love going to the movies, it's one of my favorite things to do, period. I go by myself too much, I need a girl to go with, sometimes, but that's another story. No one looking at you, (like the club) no douche bouncers or false sense of elegance and glamour, just a story on a screen, and coca cola and candy in my hands. I hope it doesn't fade away, but I could see it happening, however, it may just be a 'step your game up' situation, because theaters around here are getting extreme, like assigned seating, drinks, just upping the luxury factor. That shyt's a little much for me, just give me a good, clean, dark, theater with decent seats...

It is not going to happen. There has to be some medium between the movie being created and people viewing it in their home.
If not the film industry will end up suffering just like the music business is right now.

i don't go to the movies very often, but i do know that the prices are ridiculously high. that has more to do with inflation. theaters make most of their profit from concession sales so that's why it costs so much. it all has to do with the economy. recent droughts and shortages of crops lead to higher prices on foods. and i expect ticket sales to keep increasing in order for studios to make a profit. foods. i don't believe theaters will become obsolete but rather revolutionized. these virtual reality headsets and ideas sound cool but will likely cost too much for the average consumer. if you have a family of four, why spend a couple grand on four headsets when you can just buy a TV and have everyone watch, even friends and neighbors. i think theaters are going to become more user friendly as time progresses. better food selections and restaurants inside theaters. yeah i know some have that already. movies are going to have better graphics and cinematography. they will be cheaper to produce. with the option to buy tickets online or in advance, even at the machine at the theaters. the theaters will start cutting staffing to ticket sales and just have a bunch of machines selling tickets in order to save payroll. it's all about minimizing expenses to increase profits. they'll find a way. technology does that to industries. here in south Florida it's all automatic tolls. i don't think there's a single toll booth operator in Dade County. with so much profit being made by theaters. they'll just find ways to make more and stay in business. unless the studios can release excellent quality movies to consumers right away instead of theaters, people gonna prefer theaters instead of raggidy cam jobs. and even still that opens up flood gates to piracy. it's all about "big business" basically. go to the theaters or wait for the leak to drop.

I much rather go to the theater. There is just something about being in a theater with a large screen, bumming sound system, and with other people that can't be done with the shyt you bringing up.

Well you'll be like nikkas who go to record stores now and by CDs. A lame who hasn't caught up with the changing times. Plus why do you think the experience of watching virtual movies wouldn't be more exciting? All technology does is open up new experiences we couldn't even imagine before.

You can't compare cameras, CDs, to movies.

It's like saying bars will be obsolete in the near future. You can buy a bottle of whatever for the price you pay at a bar or club. You can play your music, wear whatever you want in the confines of your own home, and don't have to worry about long lines, admission prices. etc. So why do people still go to bars/clubs?Restaurants, you can cook that ish at home, so why go out? To get out the house, the social atmosphere...even people watch.

I believe that most people don't want to sit in the house for everything. Some people like to go out and enjoy being around people. Some things can't be simulated, no matter how much you want them to be, and people are unpredictable. But on the flip side, I'm sure there are some people out there that can't wait to have surrogate representations out themselves out in the real world.
