because more people have Cable and DVD Players and would rather wait....why do you think so many movies end up recouping or earning profit when they are released on dvd to buy or when there rights are sold for broadcast:heh:

so what if the Hobbit sold less than the trilogy..lots of movie sequels and prequels have made less than the original:ufdup:
doesnt mean the industry is in danger..blockbusters are not in fear, have you even seen whats planned on deck for the next two years:beli:

I said in the next 20 years, not 2 or 3. I think with technology advancing the industry is in danger. The fact they have to keep upping the prices to keep up with Attendances shows this. The fact people have more options to watch their movies makes me feel we could see the downfall sooner rather then later. Also DVD/Bluray sales are down too by the way. Me personally I love the theater experience but I'm not surprised that I have more friends that say, "I'll wait for DVD" then I ever had before.

dvd/blu ray sales are down because they raised the prices of movie new released...4 years ago you could buy a new release for 12.99-14.99 the first week, now they're on sale for 19.99 so people do not buy like they used to, why you dont see hundreds of copies of movies anymore..people will wait:mjpls:

you keep saying upping prices..theaters are NOT owned by the studios, theyre either franchises or independatly owned and operated..THEY set the prices
you say $17 to see a 3D, I have a theater by me thats $7 for matinee 3D and 12 for regular, the only time I spent 17 is for IMAX:ufdup:
you dont like the price drive to another theater or watch a movie before 5:beli:

and with technology advancing people are not going to stay away, its the opposite, theyll check it out:leostare:

Movie theaters got less than 10 years left brehs. Just like technology changed the music industry from being about selling CDs at record stores to selling digital songs online, hollywood is gonna get the same treatment.

Technology is improving exponentially. What that means is that in the blink of an eye, industries will be destroyed while new ones will be created.

I don't know if any of you know anything about the Oculus Rift, but its a new virtual reality headset techonology that is set to change gaming in the coming years because of its 3D stereoscopic immersive capabilities. If similar technology can be used to render widescreen immersive movie viewing from the comfort of one's couch, then no one will want to go to a movie theater when they can get a superior experience in their home for much less.

Given the choice to watch a movie like Django, The Avengers, or Dark Knight Rises at home or in the theater im going to the theater every time.

This is the reason why I havent even seen the recent Batman movies. missed my chance to see them in theatres and there not really at home watching movies in my opinion (Im not a big fan of superhero movies and comics).

The experience of watching a movie in a theatre just cant be replicated. Im glad I saw Django in theatres imo it made it that much better (especially when Ross 100 Coffins joint came on :dj2:).

Look at Avatar...there is no reason to watch that movie if you aint watch it in theatres (3d). The storyline is some shyt that we've seen and read a million times. It was the whole cinematic experience and 3D that made it dope.

Going to a movie, club/bar/concert, sporting event are like American pastimes that probably wont ever see a decline.

People are naturally social human beings so no I doubt it.

you sound like the same idiots who probably though telephone wouldn't catch on because people would rather talk in person

technology isn't about limiting our interactions but rather it enhances it.....look at the internet.......its connected more people than any other technology in history

technology can make it so that we can have a more immersive experience watching movies in our homes where we can still interact with other human beings without having to go outside

stop limiting the potential of technology by not aiming high enough

I think the word "Obsolete" was wrong on my part. I don't think Theaters will be gone, I think there will always be a place for them for shows and performances. But I think people are not looking at the signs just like the music industry wasn't. Look I did this thread cause I'm a huge theater fan but I notice things are starting to change. The music industry also thought they were invincible until technology changed their own model.

You made my point for me. Studios makes deals with theater chains. By cutting out the theater chains they will save more money by going straight to the consumer. As for paying 17 for 3D, hey I'm in NYC it's an expensive city. But ask the average family how much they pay for to go to the movies. It's expensive. I willing to say if you did a poll, a Large percentage of people would say they would be just fine watching Big Screen new releases on their On Demand without going to the theater.

dude.....what u don't get is that technology is improving exponentially and that before long you'll be able to replicate the experience of being at the movies from you couch

immersive 3D technology is just coming online right now.....it'll first explode in the gaming with the next gen consoles but before long it should impact all scopes of entertainment

imagine being able to experience being in madison square garden being surrounded by thousands of people watching the knicks play from the comfort of your couch?

that is where technology is heading

Movie theaters are just the beginning. I think watching live sports as well as live concerts will also become a thing of the past. We are heading toward a society that will be online much more than being out there in the "real world" as the "virtual world" becoming more real.

Also you telling me people wouldn't have "New Release" parties and invite friends over to watch that new release for a price? Look at Boxing Match PPV house parties or Playoffs, tons of people have those types of parties at their homes and don't go out to bars. Also 3D televisions are now out guys, things are changing and Hollywood will end up like the Music Industry if they don't adapt.

You kicking mad knowledge bro but one thing I disagree with is Live Concerts. Humans have been watching live shows FOREVER since Shakespeare, we will never stop watching Live music performances. Movies? that's different, I think you agree with my points on technology. But fans will always want to see their favorite artist live.

wtf are you talking about it...theaters always had to pay a fee to studios to show movies..this aint new,and like I said, its THE SAME FEE, its theaters who set their prices, which why you can see the same movie, at 2 diffrent theaters, at the same time and pay a diffrent price..what part of that dont you understand:mindblown:

now ask the average family..is it expensive to go to the movies...OR is it expensive in buying all the junk food is what you should think about:usure:
like I said before..see a matinee if you dont want to pay full price, its that simple
