OK I haven't read through this entire thread, but has anyone commented on McQueen's meta about race. How Liam's character
was trying to return to his white life by taking on a white mistress and having a white baby after losing his black son to police bias? Viola even says as much, and Liam's response is "what about me?" lol That was like the textbook white tears response. Also did you catch how quickly Colin's character ran from that Minority Women Work event. He was running!

He was running from the reporter's questions, though it was clear he didn't give two fukks about that event.

This movie didn’t make sense to me until I thought about it. Mulligan’s whole plan was to have his dad killed by the black politician. It’s the reason the heist leader faked his death and left the book behind. Mulligan wanted to entrap his competition. The book just ended up in the wrong hands.

Another one, not as important
the white girl Neeson’s character had the baby with knew her husband was getting off’d, right? I told my fiancée this because I talked about the various reactions the women had to their husbands before the job that killed them and she looked like he was fukked up, but really she knew he was about to die. I felt that was obvious but she called it speculative. Anyone else feel like or agree with her?

That may have been young Mulligan's plan, but Jamal wouldn't have killed the old man. Mulligan won the election because of the sympathy from his father getting killed. The women messed up by not tasing the Asian lady and whoever else was in the house.

The movie is out so if someone comes in here and it gets spoiled, that’s on them.

How could she not know? She had a baby for Liam’s character and obviously knew she was pregnant for him.

Jamal wouldn’t have, but no telling what his little brother would have done. Remember Mulligan told his dad he’s about to die anyway when they had that argument before meeting with Viola’s character? Mulligan might have been planning on having his father killed by his own people after the robbery and framing Jamal.

I believe you have it a bit confused.

Veronica's husband, Harry, was planning to double cross both the Mannings and the Mulligans. He was pulling a job to steal $2M for the Mannings, because Jamal Manning needed most of that money for his campaign. Behind Jamal's back, Harry made a side deal with Jack Mulligan in which Harry faked his death and keep the money while splitting it with Jack and therefore cripple Jamal's campaign. This was why Jamal was so desperate to get that money and forced Veronica's hand. Unbeknownst to Jack Mulligan, Harry had his own plans to rob him of not just his half, but the full $5M he got stashed from embezzlement of his own donations. He knew that the Mulligans wouldn't dare claim they were robbed because that'll open a whole new can of worms as to where they got that money from being that it was stolen money to begin with. So, the plan was initially for O'Reilly, their driver, to sell off the book to the Mannings and that'll so call pay their debt and he was planning to rob them after the heist was done, but Veronica intercepted it and decided to fulfill it out on her own. Regardless, Jamal wasn't with selling off the book when his brother, made mention of it, he wanted the cash on hand. So Jamal's brother decided to go on his own to scoop out what Veronica is doing with the intent of robbing her and he roll out with the cash. The only reason he didn't kill them was his own underestimation to which was part of the theme throughout about the assumption that they're women and wouldn't dare pose a threat. This had nothing to do with the elder Mulligan. It was incidental of him showing up. Like Harry told Veronica when he finally appeared, the job was supposed to been easy. So, murder wasn't part of the equation. Harry didn't care or was favoring one side or another, all he cared about was his new family with his mistress and them getting the cash and dip. His plan was to fukk everybody over all at once.

Makes sense. Either way, I feel like the movie did a poor job of explaining that, which is why I came to the conclusion that I did. I honestly thought he stole from the Mannings, not for them. Which, I guess he did, but not in the way I thought.

I'm super confused. I thought he stole 2 million from the Mannings as well?? I think Jamal Manning even said he didn't know Veronica's husband really. So he was wondering why he stole his money from him? The movie made it seem that Jamal got 2 million stolen from him.

Nah, Harry was hired to pull that heist for the Mannings. It not really any personal relationships, but they know him as someone who can pull the job off. Once they believed him and the crew were killed, they were questioning about what happened to the money. I mean by right, Harry DID steal from the Mannings considering that $2M was supposed to go to them instead of half to Mulligan. But the job Harry was hired to do was in order for Jamal and his brother go fully legit. That why he was explaining to his brother who preferred that gangsta life about why being elected an Alderman is better than what they were doing.
