I thought this was a great social commentary on local politicians and the inner city but a mediocre heist movie. I was way more engaged with all the political stuff and got bored with most of the stuff related to the heist. Didn’t expect that to happen

I took it as this being a social-political film disguised as a heist film. I don't even think the point was about the heist itself, but the political chess that was behind the whole scheme to begin with. Such as the reasons behind her owing them money was politically motivated, the plot-twist was rooted with political connects, and where they were pulling the heist at was all rooted from a political aspect. I do not believe the point is about the heist at all, that was just the catalyst of everything else, like the heist needed to be pulled for everything else to resolve on its on however those dominoes would of fell. But overall, this is more ABOUT the climate of Chicago politics in its purest interpretation.

Please enlighten us, about what the diner scenes was about? Because I was confused. Did Viola cut her out of the money? Why was there beef?

Veronica, she's been uptight and pretty much a bytch towards everyone. She had zero connection to any of those women whatsoever except the fact that they were all widows of those men. It was agreed once it was said and done, there all going to go about their business and won't see each other again. That was the agreement. However, Veronica, now finally free from grief sees old girl and greets her with a smile, which is the first time she smiled throughout the whole movie. She's liberated from everything and can go on with her life as the other woman is able to go on with hers. Add on to the fact that old girl took a bullet for them, so it is only natural to holla just to ensure she's okay too.

I liked the movie a lot but there was something missing to give it greatness. I can't put my finger on it.

Really loved how they weaved the political aspect into the heist. Daniel Kaluya was an absolute savage and should get a best actor nomination. He was very scary.

Queen Viola was great too as was the tall white girl. Loved the double crosses too.
Hans Zimmer on the beat :whoo:
I loved the score too
I have an idea...
I feel part is that Veronica was such a hard-ass that she never once really been friendly to anyone of them. Old girl took a bullet for them. She cannot brush that aside after everything they went through.
This was my same feeling too.
that was the first time she smiled after the funeral too

I loved at most times the score was minimal... there was a lot of scenes where I felt like I was watching The Wire for real.

Definitely did feel like a lost episode of the Wire. Kaluuya’s character reminded me of Chris and Marlo, Farrell’s character reminded me of Carcetti. And Paperboi gave me a Stringer Bell, trying to go legitimate vibe

Cornfields, cows, & an one stoplight town
This was really great. Non-stop tension and suspense. I really loved the layers that highlight the relationship between politics, organized and unorganized crime, race, and class. I also enjoyed the characters and their development. The twist was fukking awesome. My friend would not believe it until she saw it literally, even though the evidence was there. The only thing I was kinda iffy about was the awkwardness of the ending, but I get what McQueen was trying to do there, and I guess that's life -awkward and tentative. It reminds us of who these women are and who they aren't. I do wonder what happened to Jamal's brother and Mulligan's son. I wish there had been some after shots of their reactions or something.

All in all, this was excellent.

9 out of 10.

Ok I'm glad this wasn't just me.

I'm so glad to hear I wasn't the only one thinking this. I really did have an an updated Wire feel but with politics and crimes as the focus vs. the drug trade.
