:mjlol: I have no idea why you’re trying to make this bigger than it is But if T.Scott mother worked at an Apple store she wouldn’t be in Jack n Jill. You have to get multiple references, two endorsements from members, plus a massive financial and background check.
A lot of people dont know.. but if you know you know... :sas2:

Aint no regular job having folk in jack n jill.

They have scholarships for gifted students whose families can't afford the tuition. Having an education-- even a doctorate doesn't make you wealthy. My boy's girl has a PhD and all she does it sit around playing Nintendo Switch while he's off working. And working for Apple doesn't mean you're an engineer. She probably just worked at the Apple store as a manager or something.
You gotta understand the way this country works. Class is a huge hurdle to success in America especially for us black people. The reason more black people aren't successful isn't because they're stupid or lazy, it's because of class barriers. Travis isn't alone, a majority of black Hollywood comes from privileged backgrounds. The reason they're not transparent about that is it would make them less relatable to their working class fans and a large part of their appeal is that their success seems "attainable" to those fans.

Oh boy, not the "hate on a successful black man" theme from the 90s again.
There was a song about this

Aw man, you just hating, aw man you just jealous aw man you don't wanna see a black man be successful, you a playaaaa hater.

What are the requirements to be successful, Black and respected? Lol. Can’t be wealthy or a lame or safe or whatever.

A lot of y’all complain that women want Tupac in a business suit but that’s who a lot of y’all look up to and want to be as well based on what some people are saying in this thread.

The truth is that when you hating on a brother like this you’re just projecting your own insecurities. Of course his success HAD to come from having well off parents or the Kardashian stimulus because if he came up “normal” or poor like you then he’d be just like you, living a normal life. Well that’s bullshyt cuz it’s plenty of hood nikkas who made it too. I’m not even a fan of this motherfukker but dude is clearly very smart. One of the most underrated parts of being smart is being able to set a goal, know what skills/drive/knowledge/connections it takes to get there then executing. Dude had some advantages, yes, but clearly he did a lot to shepherd his own results.

And again, I think his music is trash but he knows his market and the appeal and is taking advantage of that knowledge without compromising himself or his community. I can’t ever hate on that, in fact, I salute. :salute:

its odee because nikkas will talk about black generational wealth until its somebody that actually represents that, then all that rah rah motivational shyt turns to hate

i don't know nothing about travis scott, but nothing i read about him in this article says he tries to portray himself as something he's not; if i'm wrong i'll take this, but he seems to acknowledge what he came from

it's mad confusing to see the reaction on this site to this when all i've read is individuals saying that this type of achievement is what more black folk need to strive for, in a variety of industries

only explanation i can think of is jealousy

shyt is just going to look mad funnystyle next time i see a conversation here about economic achievement for black individuals knowing that this is how a lot of people really feel

I noticed that thecoli is against black dudes from the burbs. That's why terms like "nikka nerd" get thrown around pretty often out here:sas2:.
shyt I'm going to keep it funky I say nikka nerd and it don't have to do with being from the burbs when I use it. Being from the burbs don't make you that anymore than being from the hood makes you "ghetto". Its how you act period and some dudes act like nikka nerds or nerds period. I also stole nikka nerd from Tariq so I'll give credit where credit is due. I just think someone like Travis making it makes some on here have all the excuses for why they can't make it like everybody in this mythical jack and Jill shyt balling out of control.

:gucci: If that ain't the pot calling the kettle black. I can tell you're a low achiever in life and don't understand how someone can gain access to these privileged spaces despite not having the same resources as your peers.

1.) As previously stated, private schools offer scholarships for underprivileged students. If he was smart enough to gain access to an elite private school, that's an excellent resource to gain the necessary referrals. And to top it off, Jack n Jill get to pat themselves on the back for not being 'elitist' towards their own people.

2.) Also as previously stated, his grandfather WAS an educated man. While he may not have been wealthy, his social network may be strong enough where has those kinds of connections.

You're the one adding all these qualifiers to diminish another Black man's success.

Shining definition of c00nery.

People don't really want black economic achievement. Its kinda like a cure for certain diseases. If they have the cure what will there be to talk about. You can apply this logic to most of the consistent few topics that get brought up on here.
