Always amazing to me that people think the suburban, drive everywhere, fly everywhere style of America just naturally developed. Every city used to have extensive rail networks. GM and big oil literally bought up the street cars and passenger rail. Then sold it all as the American dream to commute 40 minutes both ways, litterally skipping over not yet developed land in cities that could have offered the same lifestyle. Throw in the boogieman and you got white flight. We don't even stop to think, wow, we drive a long way and a lot and spend a lot on it. Think about it. People spread out before the amenities of life did.

Obama wanted it but them cac Republicans stop the bill. There is no reason why Philly NYC DC can’t be in a 30 minute reach of each other

shyt a train trip from Atlanta to NYC wouldn't even take that long on a high speed rail

I never took much though in a high-speed rail, but this would be damn nice. From Chicago to ATL in 3 hours. You mean I could be in ATL after work on a Friday night?:ohhh::mjlit:

Rick Scott fukked it up. :snoop:

The Orlando-Tampa portion was supposed to be the first HSR project in the country to serve as a showcase for other regions back around 2010. It was supposed to connect the 2 tourist cities so vacationers could hit both in the same trip cause it would be a 40 min ride between them. Then the next phases would’ve connected Miami, Jacksonville, and ATL.

That skeletal piece of shyt Rick Scott cancelled it even though it was approved by the outgoing legislature of Dems and Repubs. The only reason he did it was because he didn’t want Obama to get a political W for something “socialist.”

He made up some shyt about not doing it because of cost overruns. Then 3 corporations stepped up and said they would eat any cost overruns because it would ultimately help them make more money and he still nixed it. The business community wanted it too.

Dude is pure scum.
He was right. Reference CA's $10B bullet train from SF to SD.
Over budget by $Bs, delayed by decades, 12 years later, no tracks laid.

No he wasn’t. The initial leg for the FL project was just Tampa-Orlando. Those cities are waaaay closer to each other than San Diego and San Francisco. The idea was to start there because it had the highest prospect of success and was supposed to be the showcase model for the rest of country.

It made sense because tourists could visit Orlando, the tourist capital, and visit Tampa anther huge tourist location on the same trip with a short train ride. The plan was then to expand to Miami, Jacksonville, and Atlanta, but the Orlando-Tampa connect was supposed to be the model. If you had success there, there would be a groundswell of national momentum for HSR. Dems, Repubs, private business, and the voters were all behind it. Rick Scott axed it just because he didn’t want Obama and “soshulizm” to get credit using his state.

I've done that train run before, more than once :snoop: All those hours travelling in the same state. Thankfully those broke days are behind me.
