:what:

You concluded that from this one amateurish
article ("Somalians" is still not a word)? :mjlol:

Plus your own link says nothing about Somalis bleaching the most.

Almost every study shows that West Africans bleach the most. Nigerians in particular. It even makes sense rationally speaking: there's a large, and growing, middle-class in West Africa which drives the demand for these types of products. These products are also marketed more in West Africa. It's, overall, a wealthier region.

I have no clue why you would single out East Africans for this fukkery :francis:

The pressure to be 'Arab' when you're a Black Muslim.
I remember reading accounts from Darfur and how marauding bands of invading Arabs and their women were committing genocide against indigenous Africans and how theyd mention skin colour.

By the way, I've never heard of this being a problem in the AA community. We all have our vices and c00nery does manifest itself in various ways across cultures. This ain't an AA vice :yeshrug:

We're not a monolith brehs, I don't see why there is even an argument :mjlol:

young man....are u even african american???.....

i cant believe you would say such a thing its been VERY COMMON amongst AA's for decades

im an HBCU alumni and i can attest to this being a problem as well amongst african americans as stated by THESE AFRICAN AMERICAN women in this video

it is frowned upon in west indian society as well..........

just as much as you have a demographic promoting skin bleaching in the carribean ...you had many against it...

even making songs about it.....this tune was a big hit as a anti-bleaching anthem in the reggae dancehall world

What does being an HBCU alum have to do with it...lol. I am too but.. what does it have to do with the convo?

Just cause they are in the store - doesn't mean we are buying them. I see them all the time - and they stay stocked on the shelves. Also, know that Black American women aren't the only people going in to those stores. They maybe flying off the shelves - but Black America women aren't the buyers.

The women in the video are talking about colorism - not that they bought creams.

I won't get into the mudfight that this thread became, but i will say the only time i've ever seen and recognized a bleacher irl, she was Jamaican.

Started coming to work looking like a washed out, faded greyish pink brownish tint.

Asked my ex who knew her and was also Jamaican if i was imagining things or was she bleaching n she told me to mind my business, i don't know what kinda atmosphere ol girl had at home.

I've seen youtube vids of multiple nationalities bleaching, but the only personal experience i had, was with that chick. Either way, that's sad as shyt, and kinda pathetic too (imo) but i haven't had to walk in these peoples shoes so i just smh and shut my mouth.

Lemme add, i never heard about AAs being heavy in this stuff, aside from the old sorry ads from 60+ years ago.
Are we deep in this today?

Going by my circles........Nope. But i'm just a breh from Connecticut, i can't speak on everyone.

Again. I am not the biggest fan of weave - but it's a hair style option. It does not equate self-hate. I have a weave in right now - but I'm natural and my hair is what most would consider long. I have it in cause I wanted a certain style and didn't want to straighten or add heat to my natural hair to get the style. It will be out in a few weeks and i'm back natural. That's why most BW are doing. It's not to emulate white women.

Many BW have natural hair or wear their own hair and use weave as a styling option. It's real and true - whether you believe it or not.

Skin whitening is on some who other ish. And to be real - ALL women - not only Black women wear weave.

Also, please start asking why some of these women are wearing weave -- it has A LOT to do with what men find attractive and what's mainstream attractive in our communities.
You're right, everytime I go out I see a mixture of weave, relax or natural hair styles amongst black women and they usually switch it up. My mother, sister, and female cousins stay doing that.

YOU THINK BEING AN AFRICAN AMERICAN GIVES YOU A BETTER STATUS IN LIFE AND MAKES U BETTER THAN OTHERS??

:camby:

You are not Black American though. It's a difference.

No one thinks being Black American gives us a better status -- nor has anyone stated that - we just have another way of thinking and how we were brought up.

No one in my family bleaches or has ever bleached.

The store is probably either owned by an East African or you live in an area with many EA's. It's not as common as you are making it. It happens, but it's nowhere near West African levels :yeshrug:
None of my exes family members bleached...they Somali.
I've never seen it.
