Thanks for the detailed post -- but that still doesn't mean Black Americans who are native and not immigrants/1st/2nd generation in America are buying these products.
Like what are you trying to say? I know they exist - and I know they are sold in stores in the US - but my point is Black Americans who are native to US are not buying them or using them like that.
OK. and you're welcome. This is a discussion that I've had many times before.I've been on different sides of the debate.
I made my initial point(s) in this thread and received a few replies challenging what I wrote. I asserted that skin lightening products were and are used in America. I showed advertisements for brands of these products in THE largest African American media vehicle (Ebony) from decades before there was any sizable population of foreign born Blacks in the USA.
Wasn't until the Immigration Act of 1965, that there were any sizable influx of non European immigrants here in the modern era, much less Black immigrants.
It's reasonable to concede that these products were being used by native born Americans for decades . II'd like to hear on what basis would you believe that the usage by this specific group would have stopped or decreased since 1965?
Before you answer, think of the the documented rise of jheri curl company, hair relaxer products, hair texturizer products, weaves, and wig industry since 1965. And whether you think that it is Black immigrant groups and their children alone who are buying those products.
