Why pay $499 for checkerboard 4K when you can pay $399?

Games are out and the majority of them are native 4K
If you consider dynamic framerates where sometimes the game hits 4K but scales it back when the scenes get too heavy to be uncompromised 4K then yeah.

People from this company said this is uncompromised 4K. Why then are the resolutions dynamic? Why then are games using checkerboarding still? If they didn't lie this thread wouldn't exist.

At the very least when the PS4 Pro came out Sony was upfront about the trickery and BS it used to be faux 4K. Xbox ridicules them for that then employs the same tactics and blames it on developers.

It's sad you can't even call them out for that. You have to two the company line no matter how dishonest they are.
Xbox’s Phil Spencer: PS4 Pro is an Xbox One S competitor, not a true 4K console
“I look at [PS4] Pro as more of a competitor to [Xbox One] S than I do to Xbox One X,” claims Spencer. “This is a true 4K console. If you just look at the specs of what this box is, it's in a different league than any other console that's out there.” Spencer points out 40 percent more GPU speed, more RAM, and the speed of storage as the advantages of the Xbox One X over the PS4 Pro, but he also knocks Sony’s methods for getting to 4K resolutions with some of its games. “When I think about techniques to somehow manufacture a 4K screen like what some other consoles try to do, this is different than that.” Spencer also says he expects the majority of consoles that Microsoft sells next year will be Xbox One S.
Assassin's Creed Origins
Assassin's Creed Origins: Xbox One X is improved, but to what extent?
Regardless, even though the visual payback isn't as dramatic as you may expect on the new Xbox, the pixel count does indeed ramp up dramatically in the leap from Pro to X. In general gameplay, we didn't get to see the Microsoft console deliver full-fat 2160p, but we did measure 3584x2016 at the upper bounds - a 62 per cent increase in maximum resolution up against the highest pixel count we saw on Pro: 2816x1584. In terms of the minimums, it's X at 1656p vs Pro vs 1350p. Completing the gamut of tests we ran, the most common measurements saw Pro spend much of its time at 1440p, with Xbox One X between 1700p and 1800p in the same areas.

Let me guess it's the developers fault the hardware can't run their title at native 4K all the time because it isn't powerful enough even though Microsoft sold this to consumers as a true 4K machine.

Stop this nonsense. The Xbox one X is far and wide a more powerful console than the PS4 Pro. It's fine to accept that.

If they had launched at the same price I would of happily bought one.

But just because power isnt everything, let's not pretend its not there

The thread doesn't argue that.

The thread simply argues that MSFT at time championed the X1X as a "true 4K" machine and lamented the PS4 Pro for using technical tricks to get a 4K like image and yet here they are using those same tricks for their own games. Nobody is saying X1X isn't more powerful than PS4 Pro.

Look breh. This shyt is splitting hairs. Not even a Titan X can hit 4k on EVERY game.

People should have a "Microsoft Bullshyt detector" by now. They are always gonna exaggerate their products.

Setting a resolution in a game to 4K on PC can be done on ANY geforce card up from the GTX 650. You meant to say not even a Titan X can hit 4k at 60fps with every setting maxed out on every game which again is a completely different benchmark.

Which is fair. But the point is actually illustrated in your rebutall. There will always compromises in software to match hardware. That is not to pretend the hardware isn't powerful and is a lie.

A Titan X can hit 4K an damn near everything now it's not gonna be 4K 60fps but is should clear 4K 30fps easy.

All Phil and them had to do is say their system was more powerful than Sony's and it came closer to 4K than the Pro. Instead they embellished what the X was for dramatic effect and once they got called out on it they turned around and said "that's up to the developers how they use the console's power. "

He completely misrepresented what they put together as a true 4K system when reasonably you can't offer a system that does total native 4K at $500 anyway.

I personally think next gen unlocked framerates and variable refresh 4K TVs that go up to true 165hz should be the wave.

165hz >>>>>>>>>>>>>resolution bump.

It could be 4K 60 no problem. Just dail back a setting or 2. I know for a fact cause I have SLI Titan X Pascals. And one of them shyts could run everything out here right now.

Blame the developers. Every game technically could be 4K, but the devs decide resolution, detail level, etc.
