If we talking straight lyrically whos better then him? Lupe is one of the GOATs.

Elite lyricist
Classic verses
Classic albums
Dope live performer
Impactful
Influential
longevity
Hit songs
Critical acclaim
Can LEGITIMATELY freestyle off the top

What are we talking about. He’s got everything. This is a non debatable top tier MC. I need names. Who’s better then him

Strictly bars? Canibus. I'll take Illmatic/IWW era Nas and 456/Roots Of Evil G Rap too.
The weird overly complex stuff Lupe does? Aesop Rock

Lupe is the best wordsmith/lyricist but he lacks charisma and swagger. He’s always been GOATed from a strictly lyrical perspective in my eyes, but that’s where it ends. To be a truly great MC, you need the power and emphasis behind the words that he’s never had…

Strictly bars or overall. Either way. When you look at all the boxes I mentioned that Lupe checks I wanna know who’s better than him overall that can check all those boxes.

Straight bars to me means if you put them on the same track to just flex lyrically who would have the illest verse. Nas is the GOAT so overall he’s one that’s better than Lupe. Straight bars though.. I got Lupe. 97 Canibus is a good pick. My argument though is Lupe can cook right now. Not sure Bus could

Facts, dude lacks charisma big time.

That's why I think Tupac is the greatest overall rapper.

Compared to Lupe lyrically, Pac is "simple" , but Pac's mic presence and overall energy/charisma made you FEEL and pay attention to everything he was saying.

None of the rappers named are even close to Lupe Fiasco lyrically, lol. It’s all subjective (I guess) but I gauge lyrical ability on degree of difficulty…like how difficult is it to write like this. Lupe’s degree of difficulty on the shhit he’s done on the mic is a completely different dimension than these guys yall naming…respectfully of course, they’re great rappers.

Some of these guys are great rhymers…some of them just do great multis…some of them have great vocabulary, etc… Lupe does all of that arguably at a 10 out of 10 level…but also all of it is probably gonna have two or three meanings metaphorically, just as a whole body…entendre wise most of the bars are gonna have two or three meanings…and not just simple regular wordplay (tho he can do that too at a 10) etc… Lupe is Jay-z mixed with Nas mixed with Rum Nitty mixed with Lux mixed with probably a 130+ IQ. And he’s a great song writer as well. Alien shhit…you comparing humans to an alien, lol 🤷🏽‍♂️.

I agree with some of yall saying you don’t “feel” his shhit like that tho, PAUSE, I can understand that. His voice is weak and his conviction is ehh so it makes sense, far greater rappers than him in those areas…those are important areas too. I’m just talking strictly pen work tho…he’s the greatest I’ve ever heard.

Nah. He's up there, but nah. He more or less admitted Aesop Rock does what he does better.
I’m Ignorant so tell me if I’m wrong but does he have a Drogas Wave like album where it’s not only listenable but weaves that kind of story with lyricism because what I’ve heard from him is purely wordsmith lyrical songs

If Canibus was at all motivate to make "good music". He's far more interesting than Lupe. Convince him to go back to his '98 style andpair him with a competent producer and you get better music.

IDK, never listened to all of it, it was boring. Didn't even bother listening to the Any Winehouse Battle Rap album:beli:

NGL, I never heard a lyrical storytelling track from Lupe that wowed me the way that Breeze Brewin, Boots, Mos Def, Doom, Aceyalone, Andre 3000, Nas, Blu, etc. can do. IMO that's one of the hardest things to do while balancing the soul of the story w/ the lyrical execution. A lot of Lupe's storytelling tracks feel more rooted in concept than they do in experience/feeling. He can do conceptual story tracks well (see "The Instrumental", "Alan Forever", etc.) but when it comes to storytelling tracks that have more grit/texture/vividness, more performative characterizations and more self-reflection, he tends to come up short imo.
