Why isn't Ghostface not universally seen as top 5?

Most people I know fukk with Ghost, consider him 1 of their favourite members of Wu, I just think it comes down to they think there are other greats they think are better, I agree, always really liked Ghost, at 1 point was my favourite Wu member too, now it's either him or Raekwon in terms of discography, probably Rae currently.

I fukk wit' Ghost heavy so don't come @ me, please.

  • His music doesn't age well
  • He's a one-trick pony
  • He comes off as lyrical miracle-y at times
  • The kids have moved on
He's def. T10-15 in my book.

but Kendrick's better, right? :laff:

Your bullet points are terrible.
Some of his music has aged phenomenally well.
You can't call a guy who dropped back to back superb albums a one-trick pony. Just doesn't make sense.
Nothing about Ghost is lyrical miracle
Don't care about the kids, but I somehow doubt it. The artsy kids know about Ghost, and spent money on his clone.

Cause that rap so no one else knows what your talking about is appealing to hip hop heads but pretty much no one else

this is the truth in its simplest form. And I fukk with Ghost super heavy.

Ghost, as incredible as he is, is just not that accessible. It's very much art for art's sake. Compared to a Nas that's art for realism/community healing's sake while being highly artistic. And Ghost's content is a little too light to be top 5.

He's in my elite tier

ranking rappers in order is an outdated concept

everyone who's elite has brought something unique to the table

truth

My Pops Forever RIP
Simple.

The only person out of Wu that we ever wanted to consider or discuss being on that level was Method Man. Once it became apparent that Meth wasn't gonna live up to the high hopes we placed on him, we dismissed the entire Wu no matter how much piff they dropped. Ghost didn't make music that was easy to digest and that hurt him in the long run.

i always thought he was held in pretty high regard as someone who made dope music consistently for years. would be in my personal top 5 most days if you asked me. kinda surprised to see so many arguments against it on the first page but oh well.

ironman to more fish (bw and pretty toney had some missteps, og versions being better than retail, etc). i can find a million more dope songs in his catalog from the unreleased/leaked shyt, couple mixtapes here, not even considering features and group shyt with wu or theodore unit. i admit i don't bump the later stuff so much and for as much fanfare as there is for his joints with BBNG and adrian younge i find myself going back to the instrumental versions of those albums more than anything.

i prefer the more left field, younger ghost, but i gotta give it to him he evolved really gracefully and did what has worked for him instead of trying to fit in with the current climates when he drops.

No Father To MY Style.. A Son Unique
lotta people exposing themselves in here saying ghost doesnt make sense.

literally the style was from wu forever -> supreme -> parts of the w (1 song, maybe 2)

dude does the putting together "fly words" shyt on literally less than 20 songs over 2-3 albums in a 20+ year career while totally ignoring 75% of his work yet i still keep seeing people make blanket statements saying ghost makes no sense.

just exposing that yall never really listened to ghost/cant comprehend lyrics in the first place.

Says someone that doesn't listen to Ghostface. He rapped like that for probably 3 years out of his over 2 decade career.

Music doesn't age well? 1 trick pony? Lyrical miracle? Are we talking about Ghostface?

It happens in EVERY Ghostface thread. Bunch of dudes that couldn't spit a Ghostface verse to save their mother's life wanna chime in on shyt they know nothing about.

Anyways...Ghost is easy Top 10 and is my number 2 after Nas. Brilliant fukking MC and it's at the point now where he's universally considered one of the best to ever do it. He's routinely brought up in best ever conversations. Don't know what threadstarter is talking about.
