It doesn't matter if he's a great actor thats not the point :what:

The character doesn't need to be made black why was that done?

It cheapens the movie and you watch these FF4 movies will flop just like the 1st 2..

shyt is dumb I don't need any misguided white guilt..

Make a movie like Exodus with black people and I will be satisfied..
neg :squmad:

So the movie will flop because of his choice to put an up and coming black actor in the role? ok gotcha. And it feels forced to you but you're not Josh Trank so unless you're in his head or have had a personal sit down with the man, that doesn't feel right to say. He has his reasons for telling the story this way and cast not only his friend but the guy he feels can best portray the role. It's done all of the damn time in hollywood and it just so happened to work out in Jordan's favor and like I've said and many others in the thread have said, he's probably the best damn actor in the movie and that's no diss to anyone in it because they've all got chops. Mara, Bell, Teller and Kebbel are all doing their thing right now. And on top of that, there are now a slew of people who will probably be more open to seeing the movie now than they'd be if it were a cast of all white people because now they see someone who looks like them and they can recognize that. Now you've opened up the door to a whole group of people who may not have been paying attention before. I've got several friends who are interested in this movie purely because a black actor is in a lead role and not playing the sidekick or a bit part, but actually someone of consequence and because they know he's a good actor.

Nobody is saying he can't act..

Just make the whole FF4 black then :mindblown:

I think this movie will flop not just because of Wallace as the Torch but just overall with Fox doin the movie. I just think they are idiots and don't truly care about the characters like Marvel does.

This was a forced, shoehorned choice that just looks wack to me..

It should never be this black and white. Throughout the comic book world a superhero's costume color scheme usually stays in line. Changing a characters race in comic books is something that had been done multiple times. Wouldn't it be safe to say that color scheme changes are far less common that race/ ethnicity changes? So I could totally understand people being more accepting of a race change than a color scheme change, Torch is still going to be covered in red/orange/yellow fire right? That being said i don't think comparing the change of race to the change of costume color scheme drives home any solid point
depends on the character I guess. human torch isn't really a transcendent icon. all ppl know about the human torch is that he lights his ass on fire, so long as he still does that he'll be fine. people don't expect johnny storm to look and appear a certain way. it doesn't matter.

Normally, the costume change is indicative of some personality change or being on some off world or in some cases, an imposter or just someone holding it down until the real guy comes back. Changing race doesn't mean the character will be different. It just means their race is different but the character can be the same. If I described Peter Parker's character, none of it is dependent upon him being white.

Breh, as much as people want to crap on Fox lets look at the track record of good to bad: X men, X2, First Class, Days of Future Past, The Wolverine. All made by people who care about the franchise, the characters, and people who want to get it right. Their blunders are the x3, the first wolverine movie, and the two FF movies..all rushed together and in some cases done by people who no longer work with the studio anymore. Simon Kinberg has been steering this ship since First Class and in my eyes, he's three for three and since he's producing this movie as well, along with Matthew Vaughn, another director and producer I love and director of First Class, I feel like they know what they're doing

Deflecting what exactly? Both Directors have their own interpretation of the original fictional literature.

Johny is being re-written as a black dude. And Ridley re-wrote Egyptians in his movie as white people.

How the fukk do you not understand that the idea is similar?:mindblown:

In the movie, Moses, Ramses ll, Queen Tuya are all Caucasian? NO!

you can't be this stupid :dead:

In this new F4, Torch is black and is being cast'd by a black actor (SAME RACE)
In Exodus these characters are Hebrew/Egyptian being cast'd by white actors (NOT SAME RACE)

I see what you're saying breh. There's a difference between casting someone as a white guy and having them pretend to be black vs casting a black guy and having him be black

Thanks for making my point for me breh: Being a Jew is a part of Magneto's background, it informs damn near everything about his character..it informs his view on humanity, his view on government, his view on his childhood, and who he becomes as an adult and the way he runs the brotherhood. It's key that he be of Jewish descent in order for it to work. Johnny, is just an all american white guy, and nothing about that informs the character. It's not important for him to be white. Is there an issue of the FF where he goes to a white's only convention? Is there an issue of FF or a scene of him and Spidey where they talk about how hard it is to be white and how he has issues with black people? Or how him being white has made him more intune to the plight of black people and now he's going to be a social crusader for minorities? No..he's just a young hothead who wants to be famous, who's out here smashing any and every chick he can, and tries to prove to his sister and her husband that he's not a screw up, all while annoying the hell out of Ben. Last I checked, you don't need to be white for that.

And since the X men is a an allegory for racial intolerance and discrimination and the civil rights era, Beast's mutation is enough to nail that point home. Plus again, Stan wanted to go further with them with race but of course he wasn't allowed to

God I want this movie to be so successful just for the nerd tears:wow:I think it was when I saw nikkas legitimately hating on Hugh Jackman being Wolverine because he's too tall that I realized the worst thing affecting comic book movies are comic book nerds. Ol Gollum ass nikkas obsessing over the most minute bullshyt. Guess what, if you want the comics read the fukking comics. Johnny Storm is still white in every issue:mjpls:

He is too tall to play wolverine

You can't be this dumb.

Both Directors are going against the popular idea of what the original characters are. Same shyt. Rationalize it however you want.
