I had put this post in the wrong section

I’m correcting that now

Not for nothing but if you eliminated ALL the “Lebron hate threads”

That would cut down like 70% of the coliseum threads

I think they should get an * as they are driven heavily by one target:yeshrug:

Cause TV (IDK about movies since I don't watch movies like that) might have fell off from the "Golden age". There's still plenty of entertaining TV shows out there but I'm easily entertained :pachaha: Remember 2012-2015 or so was :wow: Breaking Bad, Peak Walking Dead, GoT etc. In terms of *popularity* no modern day show hits like those shows did. The most popular shows in recent memory was Tiger King and Squid Game, both of those are Neflix shows which are hard to discuss on forums cause they drop all the episodes at once and everyone watches at an different pace.

I wasn't into TV like that back then but I heard the OG Dexter was an legit water cooler show along with Sopranos, etc. Yet Dexter New Blood thread is dead even though this current season is as good as the first four seasons of Dexter was IMO.

The early "Dexter" (seasons 1-4) threads on SOHH were "Breaking Bad" or "GOT" status. Those threads were among the most popular on the entire site.

These shows that you pointed out were all weekly series, as well. You can have discussions, theorize, and go back and forth with weekly shows. Most shows now give you 10 episodes on a streaming platform all at once. Takes away from the anticipation and the creative discussions. If there were more good weekly shows that people were willing to invest in, you’d probably have a lot more traffic here.

This is the biggest issue. These shows drop an entire season at once and you really can't discuss them without a bunch of spoiler tags all over the thread. That week buildup to the next episode was :wow:

Like @Pigeon mentioned, Squid Game was the most popular show on TV. Imagine if they had dropped an episode a week. That thread would’ve blown up. I miss the weekly fire..:mjcry:

The fact that TLR is so popular shows how many bitter and deranged people there are in the world, that don't have actual friends to interact with. Let them stay over there and fight about c00ns, trannies, IG thots and smart dumb nikka babble all day:scust:

I have no idea why y'all call it that because there is nothing smart about it, but what you are saying is the reality of the situation

The New Dexter is that also, but how people consume television has changed since those those shows premiered twenty+ years ago. There are way more options for people. They can stream whatever rather than having to wait to see what a television station is playing and they can watch it whenever from wherever, so the monoculture ain't really a thing anymore outside of sports. That is a positive to be honest

That is debatable. In the context of having more interaction or discussion in the Film Room, I don’t think it’s a positive. “Microwave” TV isn’t really conducive to having in-depth discussions about the building up of a plot or story direction. I’ve know people that binge watch 12 episode series over the course of 2 days. The most you’ll get from them is an overall summarization of what they like and didn’t like. The weekly format tends to spark more conversation because you don’t know what’s next. So you drop ideas, theory craft, get others’ thoughts on it. More interaction comes as a result. So for the binge-watching type, I suppose it can be viewed as positive, but the question was “why is the Film Room so dead?” I believe what you find positive may be part of the reason its viewed that way.
