I invite you to search through the entire narrative and find just where God told them not even to touch the tree?
The snake, although not entirely innocent, never told any actual lies—but it did make use of artifice to confuse Havvah. It said, 'You will not die' (3:4), and they did not; the adam lived to the ripe old age of 930 years (5:5)!

Yet God doesn't define what "meat" is. Just that it will be meat for you.
Then on the second page, he insinuates two trees one of life and one of knowledge, meaning they must exist either in the first or second pages (likely second)
then on the third page, "the serpent" or Nahash tells Eve to eat of the tree saying that you will be "Like God" (Kelohim) which is only used elsewhere in the bible by David.
Now, I have said before that my perspective was that "mimmenu" was the tree that should not be eaten. It is also mentioned by Tzipporah interestingly when Pharoah is seeking to slay Moses at the Inn

from my perspective we live in a fractal (I believe @Complexion said something similar in another thread) where Genesis is the origin of the fractal
so the "physical" reality that you believe is objective could just be the one where most people can probabilistically share
but it doesn't necessarily negate the possibility of other branches that you are either not aware of or cannot see at the same time as this one
so from our vantage point reality seems linear, but from God's POV it could be much more varied and we might actually exist in other places and are just unaware of it.
