R&B isn't exactly dead but it's been on the decline. There's still some stuff out there but you just got to look for it since it won't be played of the radio all too often, if at all.

This is my favorite R&B track of the year and I feel people have slept on it hard.

My brother you missed the point of what I was getting at. Let's put it this way the genre has fallen off hard due to this reason not on some Internet ish but real life.... As the saying goes, "life imitates art". You can disagree with me but calling people clowns for an opinion.... Come on brother.
Nikka why they so mad though :heh:. They coming at you hard.
Love In The Future on that level?
Who these nikkas btw?
Nikka opinions are that. You don't have to take mine. But let me drop this for you. Boys 2 Men: I'll make love to you. Go read those lyrics or even just the song title. Now I'm not saying you but today a lot of nikkas would have a problem with that song saying it's some simp shyt.

I even heard nikkas say Trey Songs made simp songs. But look at how them females ATE that shyt up. Nikka was getting that paper and p*ssy and he not trying to sing to you.

My point is that these nikkas aint singing to us they singing to the ladies. :takedat: Some nikkas have issues with that the same type of nikkas that get mad if you hold a door open or compliment a woman talking about you simping...But why you care :sas2:.

Too much bytchassness.

R&B been dead son not just in 2014. R&B died when R&B "groups" died.
Modern R&B has been terrible since about 2001-2002, and good stuff like Raheem Devaughn doesn't sell.

Confessions is a classic, and I fukk with R Kelly so don't even say I don't know what R&B is. Although I do agree its dead, all these guys do pop and try and pass it of as R&B.

If were talking about why R&B isn't mainstream anymore, than were having a different conversation. But it seems as though people seem hurt that the mainstream (aka white America) isn't co-signing black music. But let's not fool ourselves into thinking that the musicianship and artistry isn't lacking in mainstream R&B. Not to mention those were some of the very elements that made the genre so popular worldwide. Artists like Keith Sweat, En Vogue etc were largely supported by the black community. Keith Sweat and En Vogue have a major following here and overseas. Support from the Black community is why Keith Sweat is still able to do shows here in the states.

But if we were to go back in time and transport Teddy Pendegrass, Bobby Womack, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross,Stevie Wonder, Hi-five, Babyface etc into 2014's music climate, they wouldn't sell in the mainstream and possibly in today's black community as well. The quality decline in music overall has been felt across the board.

I'm not hurt white people aren't cosigning black music. I'm hurt black people aren't cosigning black music. We turned our back on jazz and blues and now r&b. shyt is sad, especially since r&b is my favorite genre. I have to listen to underground r&b that no one black I know listens to. My name is from Janelle Monae, so you can tell I'm a big fan. My girlfriend was looking on my iPod once a few years back and she was like,"girl, you like Janelle monae?! She's so weiiird" and then preceded to bump some ratchet shyt.

Black people are the ones that killed our music. Not white folks.

This is hurtful because music is a part of our black American experience. When we were slaves, music and dance were some of the main things keeping up going. Now we've turned our back on one of the few things we could take pride in that the white man could never take away from us.

Nobody is depending on them we're just saying the R&B voice is not being heard in the mainstream. In the past R&B it was felt and heard by mainstream weather white america accepted or not. I Listen to stuff outside radio but I also give radio a fair shot too. Some of these artist deserve the radio spins. Not everyone gets pandora, spotify or can pay for satellite radio just because it works for you does not mean it works for other people. Remember radio is free of charge and many people have better access to radio and TV. Imagine how many new fans talented artist get pick up.

Pandora is free. I don't pay for mine. But I hear you, radio is weak now, and too many people depend on it. We should hold it more accountable. But I'm a cynic. Perhaps the only way mainstream radio will change is when we start talking with our pocketbooks and turn it off.

This does kinda sound like you expect people to like the music you consider "black". I say that because I have a friend who thinks like this, and when I hang out with her, I feel like she's judgmental about what music people listen to. Like if I listen to something too low-brow,(like Lil Jon) or that's too white (like Metallica), then I've somehow rejected my black culture. I dunno. It's tricky. I hear what you're saying about embracing our heritage and contributions in jazz, blues, and r&b, but I also think people should listen to what moves them without having to think about how it represents who they are as a person. Sometimes its not that deep.

I listen to all types of genres. I'd get shyt for listening to Led Zep or fukking Daft Punk. So I don't think in labels of "black music" or "white music". I am merely speaking of music black people as a whole can be proud of. There's nothing wrong with that.

yes you are. Why should someone listen to Janelle over "ratchet shyt" if they like the Ratchet shyt?

It was just an example, and if sales tell us anything, it ain't just her. Hence why the point was made to begin with, and I'm hardly the first person to bring this up in this thread. Our generation just does not fukk with that type off music. I've accepted that.
