OP must be asleep...everything he puts out sells out by hypebeasts and trust fund babies
Oh, I ain't asleep. And I actually check out hypebeast everyday (I post in the front page comment section).

I know that's his main audience. But it's like, Kanye's intentions from what I gather is he's not trying to be a sole entity or designer doing their own thing like a Katie Eary or Christopher Kane. He wants the maison yeezy. Something that takes ages to do. He wants his collections at FW in London, Paris, NY, etc. He want to be showing at Pitti Uomo. He already did a capsule for french brand APC and it sold out. Jean Touitou said he was one of the best people he's worked with.

He could be at gosha rubchinskiy or Alexander wang levels if he really put his heart, mind, and effort to it.

He's respected amongst fashion industry people. Don't get me wrong. That's why I fukks with Kanye. Hedi Slimane (formerly of Dior, now Saint Laurent (left that too)) wanted to sign a contract with him that he would only be attending his fashion shows and no one elses. He refused. How many black people in general are commanding the attention of the fashion elite? Very few. He's not even a formal designer, but he gets that same respect as those people. Like why does Anna Wintour want to be associated with him? Why did Mark Parker get so pissed off when he dissed him on stage in front of thousands at MSG for the Yeezus tour?

Like this man got asian kids who don't really fukk with black people like that buying up all his gear. I saw a story with a 20 year old chinese dude who bought 100 pairs of yeezy 750s. 100 pairs.

I'm talking the more expensive items in these Yeezy collections, the jackets, pants, sweats, etc...that are priced high end and out of the range of the general consumer. Like I would fukk with the Yeezy clothes if they ere more reasonably priced. High end, but not high end.

Kanye fails in fashion because he has no formal training in it. It's like if a race car driver all of a sudden wanted to become a car builder, but never learned how to work on cars or design/fabricate parts. All the fashion people Kanye is up against... they're serious. They are trained. They actually sew and design shyt. What exactly is Kanye's role in his fashion line besides paying people and approving shyt? It's like becoming the boss of a company without actually doing any work in it and having no prior experience of leading a company.
He's not failing.

Once again speaking on something you have no idea about.

Yeah, there's more to fashion than just seeing something and thinking "that would be cool".

I have friends that went to FIT, and are now working for big names. It''s about sourcing materials, it's about comparing samples, it's about looking at fabrices, it's about sourcing production.

But hey, we live in an era where if you have a copy of photoshop and gildan blank ts you can be a designer as well.
this shyt is not easy man. I have friends who work in the fashion business too and it's a business. You wouldn't expect to be able to go start a computer company because you have an iPhone. That's basically Kanye's approach to Fashion. he is like those rappers who pay their way into a gang

Because he sucks at designing clothes.
He sucks.

No really.

He sucks.
I can't stress this shyt enough. He's awful.

Literally the only thing that people generally like of his are whatever long ass sweater or hoody he comes up with...because short of having epaulettes or a fukkin reindeer on it...it's nearly impossible to fukk up a goddamn hoody.

Everything else he "designs" is garbage.

How is he succeeding? If you say something stupid like we're here talking about hiM just kill yourself

dude sunk millions of dollars into all kinds of fashion Endeavors and all he has to show for himself are cell phone videos of him getting punked by actual designers while his wife laughs at him. Is that success to you?

I think him going retail might be the problem. He should be trying to pioneer a straight online strategy. Retailers are shutting doors down left and right (Sports Authority just went bank, Macys is closing down 100 stores). I'm sure the Barneys, Saks, and Niemans are doing ok but why not cut out the middle man when online makes it possible? Between him and the Kardashians they have access to 100s of millions of people online through their social media channels as well as the channels of their celeb friends. They should be using that to run preorders or be on some tee spring shyt where they'll produce if x amount of sales goals are met. This literally cuts out the amount of "waste" by so much and since their the producer and retailer, their margins would be through the roof.
I understand they want to be "high fashion" and this isn't necessarily that but they could start something new.
IMO when it comes to fashionn retail Supreme has the best model in the industry.

Only available in Supreme stores in LA, NY, LDN, Paris, and JApan.

Other than that, only available online...then that inflates the value of that brand because of it's exclusivity.

I like how he's doing the pop-up stores. That way you don't have to worry about overhead and trying to sell enough to make rents.

At this point in time, only the mainstays can continue to have a brick and mortar presence...

I went by Clinton St a couple of weeks ago to check out where our old popup was for the bones of houdini...

Other than Alife (that's been there since 1997) and Only NY, every other boutique is gone.

Online sales has been the way to go.

I support alot of indie brands from kids on tumblr, and one of the reasons I started my blog was to give those brands more exposure and get them into the eye sights of people who would dig it, ie the moneyed crowd.

Yeah, you are right, they could be doing something new...he has more than enough money to make it happen.

Instead I get the idea he wants to be in Mr. Porter, Selfridge's, Ssense, oki-ni, etc.

Pastelle was basically Kanye's version of BAPE imo.

And yeah, he does want to be a MArc Jacobs type.

I don't get it, he definetely has the money to get things going.

All we get are these overpriced and unoriginal "merch" like

Those clothes sell out every time it's released. I still don't have my hoodie because they sell out in 30 minutes. Lol

Yeah but the people buying that shyt are hypebeasts. Outside of a couple thousand people buying those pieces there isn't much demand for hype shyt or fringe couture clothing and most of the time it's designed scarcity anyway. I'm assuming OP is asking why this shyt isn't super mainstream and profitable, tbh I don't know what he defines as "sucess"

Kanye has the most coveted and re sold shoes on the sneaker market.

He has totally influenced the fashion game, Leather joggers, distressed Jeans, longline T shirt.

He has reinvented the Artist Merchandise game

Kanye isn't playing the game you are talking about. He is not trying to mass produce fast fashion. He is trying to make quality pieces like High fashion designers and He's doing it on his own.

As much as the topic comes up about blacks owning their own businesses .....some of the responses in this thread highlight the complete ignorance about business many of you have....

straight stupidity .....

Im a business owner........ Im not going to speak on what Kanye is or is not doing right.... thats not my lane

The point I want to make is this....

ignorant people in this thread talking about "his clothes all sell out" therefore hes not failing ........ dumbest shyt I heard today

How can you make that assertion without knowing how many units were produced and sold plus cost per unit?

lets say I spend a million dollars producing an album press ten thousand copies to CD for $10 each and all the albums sell out....

according to some people in this thread my albums a success because its sold out....

no recognition of the fact that I spent a 1 million dollars only to make 100 thousand ......

please dont use that stupid argument again

bro literally everything you listed that he created existed long before he got into the fashion game. Stop it. Rick James wearing leather joggers in the eighties. Distressed jeans? You gotta be kidding me bro

and you can't even give him credit for bringing that stuff back. most of that stuff was already in play before he put his stamp on it. Just like with his music. He jumps on other people's waves. Just like he did with Yeezus

don't speak on things you don't know about:mjlol::mjlol::mjlol::mjlol::mjlol:
