Why don't we as Black folks make a bigger deal out of the abysmal failing schools that the kids of our community attend.

Parents should be reinforcing whatever the child is learning at school as well as supplementing their learning as well. If you’re just sending your kid to school and having him come home and do homework and that’s it, then you already failed.

My father used to buy extra math books and make me do the problems and sit down with me to go over them, and this was on top of whatever homework I had. I hated it as a kid but now that I’m older and see how dusty these new parents and their kids are I appreciate it way more and will definitely be on that type of time whenever I have kids.:manny:

Bingo. Schools that do not have adequate funding should be funded, but schools are not substitutes for parents. Schools are there to provide a curriculum for students to work through, not to make up for what the child is lacking at home.

The real bullshyt is not calling out the shyt people reproducing with no care for what they are bringing into this world. Nowhere near enough attention is placed on the failure of the parents to care for their child's education, or anything else involving them.

If schools have to make that much effort to ensure kids get an adequate education, then there should serious consideration into removing the child from their home. If the schools are being looked at to raise children then we need to make it hard on the people that create those children.
How you going to stop people from having kids?

Y’all want to blame parents but nobody can explain how to stop people from having kids, which is lowkey eugenics talk but that’s another conversation

Blaming parents isn’t a answer or a solution for a bad educational system

How many hours a day do these parents spend reading with their children? How many hours a day do these parents spend teaching their kids numbers and simple math? How often do these parents take their kids to the zoo, the museum, the aquarium, the library or the planetarium? There's literally no excuse for a parent to have a 12 year old child that can't read at a 1st grade level. :martin:

Black schools being terrible is mostly due to racism and lack of resources. That's done by design.

Because of that its even more important for parents to be involved with/supplement their kids education at home. My kid is pre k age but i make her practice in a handwriting book before she gets to watch her tablet.

Leaving it up to the school system alone is putting your kid at a disadvantage

Kinda hard to care about the schools when you dont care about who you nut in. Schools not that hard when you work with your kids at home. Kinda hard to work with the kids at home when you are concerned with things that arent important.

Cats just cant seem to accept when its time to be a family man. Always looking for the next stepping stone.
Spitting breh! But add in the females too. It's a lot of adults out here trying to live their second childhood in spite of the kiddos they have at the home that needs their mom/dads

Don't let everyone act like American Black and Hispanic folks are dead last in the world or anything coming in at #500.

Focus at where Black folks are. As you can see, it's not far off from Serbs, Icelanders, Ukrainians, Slovaks, Eastern Europeans, etc. In the same way, Hispanics are right there with Israeli's, Norwegians, etc.

At the end of the day, it's not too far off from other people who get zero criticism. This ain't even the full list of countries. Not to mention the difference between where Black folks and the top 20 in the world isn't really that far off. With a little improvement, the scores will pass most of Europe's best.

Sure, things aren't great great, but better than most think as well when you step back and look at the bigger picture.

I also had no idea Australia and New Zealand bossed up like that. They're leading most of Europe. Oceania on the come up for real. There's a reason why we're investing out there in the Pacific.

We are on social media talking about dating politics and pop culture but nothing about the sorry state of schools in our communities. I don't have kids but too many Black kids are graduating from schools ill prepared to compete in the economy. Why do we accept this?
It's a multi-dimension problem. Failing schools are usually in poor neighborhoods with: 1) not so great employment rates 2) low medium income 3) low home ownership which translates to property taxes that funds schools, 4) and broken family structure. Then there is the issue of priorities. Folks will claim they don't have time for school board meetings and parent-teacher conferences. However, it'll look like a block party during Pop Warner football games. :manny:

There's is it's just not televised but across the country, you have these council board meetings where people constantly voice their displeasure with the school in one form or another.

Long story short...the education system (especially public schools) in the US is another industry that the wealthy have carved out the best everything for themselves and their kids. The federal government should be taking a more responsible hand in building a better education system but like with everything else, there's a push to let the "invisible hand" of the market influence this and that stems from racism that can be traced back to desegregation.

It's not the education systems fault. It's the parent's fault period. It is not the education system's job to pick up in every aspect the parent is lacking, and it's absurd to blame the schools and expect them to carry more responsibilities because parents are going to have as many kids as they want.

My aunt works for an elementary school in Philly and those kids have brought drugs and guns to school. We talking no older than 5th grade.

When trying to have conversations with parents about their children's behavior they've attempted to fight her several times. She's been cursed out several times. What should be done in those situations where the child is causing chaos in class and when having a parent teacher conference you clearly see where the child gets their influence from? If the parent decides to show up at all?

Just because "no one can stop people from having kids" doesn't mean all of the blame for where the future of children are headed is suddenly now the school's fault.

There is no state or government aid that can change the fact that people need to raise their children better and until that happens there will be no solution.

Gotta show up to these school committee meetings and hold the school system accountable.

Folks really have to take a look at themselves as parents and think about what they can do to support their child’s learning.

Pretty much even tho the answer to this is whatever is going on at home.

Parents send these kids to these schools with the intent of having a free babysitter, 8hrs a day, 5 days a week and could careless what goes on in the school until the kid is a menace and the school calls them up.
