Yeah idk what people in this thread are actually talking about. There's no way you watched Kuminga from his rookie season to now and can confidently say that he's improved
-Tonight's game against the SAC Kings showed us why he was unplayable in the postseason. Blown coverages, bad positioning, dumb fouls, dumb shots, turnovers, bad team defense, bad rebounding
for those that don't know, Kuminga was tasked with showing more effort on the boards. That was his main assignment from Kerr and the coaching staff. He was supposed to work on that during the offseason. As it stands right now, Kuminga is currently on a 3 game streak of having ONE rebound per game. Kuminga is averaging 1 rebound per game for his last 3 games.
His 3P shot has never been good. As a rookie, he shot 33% on 2.1 attempts per game. That is less than 1 make per game.
His second year, he shot 37% on 2.2 attempts per game. Again, less than 1 make per game. The ONLY reason his percentage jumped from 33% to 37% is because he made 4 more 3 pointers than his rookie season. As a rookie, he made 50 three pointers, and as a 2nd year player, he made 54. Thats it
This year he shooting 19% from 3 on 2.1 attempts per game.
He misses a lot of shots near the rim or gets blocked by opposing players too much. Most of his shots come close to the rim and he's shooting 43% FG
he is turnover prone, averaging more turnovers than assists for the 3rd straight year
he is a poor rebounder considering his size/athleticism, only grabbing 3 rebounds per game, slightly less than his last 2 seasons (again, this was something his was told he needed to work on and he's still not doing it)
His decision-making is still poor. This was an issue going into the draft. It has only marginally improved, if at all
His motor is still poor. Again, a pre-draft concern. He still floats in and out of games
this is a graphic from his pre-draft scouting. You tell me which aspects he has improved on
So no, he is more or leess the same player he was when he was drafted. Only change is he gets more minutes.
But he is not a future star. His ceiling for a contender is what Thabo Sefolosha or Andre Roberson were for the Durant OKC Thunder
There was this idea that CP3 would "unlock Kuminga" because Draymond (the nikka who loves to hear himself talk) said it one time in an offseason interview. Therefore, fans thought that CP3 would turn Kuminga into what Blake Griffin was for the Clippers (which is disrespectful to Blake). This was based purely on Kuminga being athletic and having highlight dunks and nothing more.
This thread's title should be changed from Kuminga being slept on, to Franz Wagner being slept on. You know, the guy who was drafted ONE SPOT AFTER Kuminga? Yeah, that guy
