Why does it feel like Jonathan Kuminga is still being slept on?

He should have never been put at the 4
It never made sense
He had the skill set to become a tmac type of player
It's the new NBA. Positionless basketball...

When in reality, it matters. These guys get into the league and coaching staffs project them to be 4s and small lineup 5s ignoring their skill set and tendencies. Playing guys out of position doesn't always pan out

Coaches and scouts are going to need to understand that every player can't just turn up their rebounding slider like it's 2K and guys magically turn into Andre Drummond on the glass. Rebounding is a skill set and natural instinct that is overlooked.

If a player's mentality is perimeter based, it's not a simple switch. From your assessment it looks like he plays like 2/3 that can't shoot when GS needs/wants him to be a 4 that's a beast on the glass.
He would have to change his mentality. No one is calling him to be Drummond, but you can’t be there getting one rebound every 9 minutes of play. Legler did a segment on him.

I've seen this. What I'm saying is rebounding as an attribute and skill is more nuanced than people seem to acknowledge. That's why you can have guards/wings like Hart, Russ or Ausar Thompson that just naturally go get the basketball off the glass and bigger players who just don't.

If a player is more of a finesse player and they aren't instinctually crashing the glass it's not like they can just start rebounding because the coach wants them to. It's also hard to simulate in the off-season compared to real NBA games. He also may be more impactful on the glass if he's doing it against wings compared to him doing it from the 4.

i have no idea what his mentality is, but to be that poor at rebounding at his height/size is troubling to say the least. Multiple times, he's watched rebounds fall and doesnt get to it. To be a 6 ft 7 power forward and have 3 straight games with only 1 rebound says to me he's just not putting in effort. you almost have to TRY to rebound that badly

Warriors rookie Brandin Podziemski gets 16mpg when he plays, and grabs more rebounds. Podziemski is a 19 year old rookie

If everyone is convinced he's not a 4, that means he's a wing who can't shoot and also struggles to defend consistently without fouling a lot aka useless
He's just not very good

He should have never been put at the 4
It never made sense
He had the skill set to become a tmac type of player
Never in his life has he ever had a skill set comparable to TMac
He's shown absolutely nothing in the NBA

this

he is 6 foot 7 ~220 lbs

he is a wing, but doesnt have the requisite ballhandling/passing/decision-making/shooting ability needed from a wing in today's game. that's why he plays PF

Ausar Thompson is what he was suppose to be but being in Golden St and Kerr's loyalty to vets has stunted his growth.
