Still, Smith was not ready and he was unfairly rushed by a dumb coach.
weird to hear this from you but still Ill disagree here.

not unfairly. itd be best if he sat but fact is its a problem with any shytty franchise that takes a qb high up. people expect the qb to start right away and even make a difference. not realizing that qb is not an independent variable that magically saves a franchise with shytty d no line and no weapons

So. Cal
I don't know, but I remember watching that draft with my dad and prayyyyyyying he'd keep slipping to us.

And he did :jawalrus:

I didnt. I was pissed at the pick. We needed help at WR and we chose a QB. Thats why im a fan and not a GM

roddy white was the 6th WR taken that draft @ 27

Roddy really was a bum until Joe Horn taught him how to really maximize his potential and be a professional. People in ATL used to call you Roddy White if you had butter fingers. He really changed his image.

Jeff Tedford, Rodgers college coach at Cal had built a reputation by that time as producing busts at QB (Akili Smith, David Carr, Joey Harrington)

There was no need to start him when they did though. Season was in the dump. He was way too wet behind the ears IMO.

Fairly or not, people will still make the connection

Frankly, I'm just regurgitating something I remember reading or hearing from back when the draft was :manny:

this is pile of bullshyt. rodgers was playing well in a pro offense in a pretty good pac 10, smith was running a gimmick offense down in fukking utah

"fundamentals" lol. we havent seen anything fundamental out of alex until last year :mindblown:

Tedford had his mechanics on some other s**t. Even Rodgers admitted on ESPN radio that looking back at it now he is greatly improved.

Rodgers sat behind Favre for 3 years. That sounds good? 49ers didn't have time for that.

Kolb sat for years too. I think sitting is overrated. No amount of sitting prepares you for the game. Yes, it helps you familiarize yourself with the offense but beign familliar with an offense doesn't make you a good QB.

If Carr, Jamarcus, Smith, etc sit behind Favre for 3 years, do they even come close to what Rodgers has done? I don't think so. Dude is just beastly, period.

For the record I didn't know enough about Rodgers when he was drafted to have much of an opinion...but I deff did not want Smith. There are posts on :hamster: when he was drafted where I was :deadrose: I still gave him a shot and thought he might even be competent when he came in for Hill and started balling with VD....but that was short lived.

obviously hes improved, hes arguably the best qb in the league...as opposed to just one of the pretty good qbs in college.

Ive watched cal football for years now, and his mechanics wasnt all that different from him holding the ball high close to shoulder and because of that he was coming off snaps weirdly. it was like one thing that looked weird and he corrected it.

otherwise his mechanics werent all that fukked up.
