Why ‘Avatar’ Has Been Forgotten Just Five Years Later

Five Years Ago, 'Avatar' Grossed $2.7 Billion But Left No Pop Culture Footprint

Avatar: how the biggest film of all time got left behind

Why People Don’t Care About Avatar

"Kids don’t play ‘Avatar’ on the playground nor with action figures in their homes. There is little-if-any ‘Avatar’-themed merchandise in any given store. Most general moviegoers couldn’t tell you the name of a single character from the film, nor could they name any of the actors who appeared in it … ‘Avatar’ didn’t inspire a legion of would-be ‘Avatar’ rip-offs, save perhaps for Walt Disney’s disastrous ‘John Carter.’ It didn’t set the mold for anything that followed save its use of 3D which turned the post-conversion tool into a valuable way to boost box office overseas."

Basically it's the biggest film of all time yet 7 years later nobody gives a shyt about it.

Behind You
Avatar was a technical achievement but in terms of the film itself the story was not something that wowed people or made a connection like a Star Wars or Lord of The Rings.
Cameron basically made a mediocre version of Dances With Wolves In Space with some next level special effects.

That clickbait article would get more views if it were headlined: "Why isnt Avatar Star Wars" because that all they're saying. Lucas pimped out Star Wars midway into Empire, to answer that question. Toys, coloring books, cartoons, games, novels, food, costumes, music, cock teasing fanfic writers, allowing many contemporary pop culture films to reference/advertise star wars (opening scenes of Saturday night fever for example), multiple debuts for repeat viewings.....all in less than 10 years.

Cameron doesnt seem like the type to do that. I dont even think he has as much control over Avatar as Lucas does/did Star Wars.

It must have been a really uneventful day. Ppl were asking this same question a year after Avatar came out and its been 8 years.:francis: A really slow day.

Well they're about to get their own theme park at Disney's Animal Kingdom so maybe that'll bring it back to the forefront.
