Playstation 2 happened and the Dreamcast didn't come with a DVD player.

I had both, Dreamcast was good, but PS2 was definitely better.

It flopped because Sega had already basically destroyed their brand name by releasing the Genesis, Sega CD, Saturn and Dreamcast all within a few years of each other. People were already looking at them like :ld: after Saturn, then they stopped supporting the Saturn after 4 years. By the time Dreamcast dropped people were :whoa: when it came to Sega.

They could've dropped the GOAT console and it most likely still would've flopped because by that point the brand name was worthless.

technically they sold fine but already like hexagram said had lost a lot of money on past projects and weren't very liquid...also the ps2 was hyped to the moon at the time and in the beginning dreamcast games actually looked better to be honest but ps2 had a dvd player...which was a big advantage

then when sega heard that microsoft was getting into it there just wasn't enough room for 4 consoles on the market....microsoft entering was the final nail in the coffin at that point

fukk EA too

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Dreamcast was ahead of it's time...reason it flopped was because Sega was on it's last legs using all of it's resources on bullshyt systems n gimmicks...they played themselves by tacking on the 3D aspect on the Saturn at the last minute cause of Sony and it was a nightmare to develop for and didn't do as well as the PSX...so by the time the truly great system in the Dreamcast came out they had no room for failure...but mix that with the fact that it was SOOOO easy to burn games and that fukked the sales up..PS2 came thru and put the nail in the coffin...still one of ny favorite systems tho and I still play it...

sega always the originators and groundbreakers. then theyre the first ones to fold.

always before their time.

from game gear to sega cd & sega Saturn to dreamcast.

im not sure if genesis was the 1st 16 bit joint or not, but it was the only system they put out that lasted.......its the GOAT system btw.

Oh and 1 more thing I forgot about.

Sega incorrectly assumed how much longer 2D games would be relevant. Saturn was build around 2D graphics, Playstation around 3D. That in itself was a huge blow to Sega. You had games like "Tomb Raider", one of the biggest games of that era, that ran like shyt on the Saturn.

SNES was the GOAT...Sega Genesis is def up there too tho...the other shyt they was doin like Sega CD and 32X n shyt like that..it was all gimmick shyt that had little support and and failed quick...also terribly priced..there was nothing groundbreaking about Sega Saturn...I don't know where u got that from..lol...the Saturn WAS better at rendering 2D games than the PlayStation tho...but since the genre moved into 3D it wasn't gonna save it...cause 3D wise it was damn near an atrocious nightmare to develop for cause it was a pure last minute tacked on feature....there's a reason why there's STILL no Sega Saturn emulation....Dreamcast was just beautiful and ahead of it's time...
