Why did Drake get the push he did from Young Money?

:mjlol:It's crazy that a FL Studio sample file became a #1 hit (Best I Ever Had). I still laugh thinking about that shyt.

Started the boy band era of hip-hop. Marketed to the white girls who outgrew Backstreet Boys and N’Sync.
He was a rapper but not one of “those” rappers. A rapper your parents wouldn’t necessarily like if they brought home but would still allow into the house.
Genius marketing.
You nikkas just come on here and say dumb shyt smh

I never fukked with drake music like that at the beginning cuz i thought it was too soft and too commercial

That whole YM wave was weird, full of no talent, a drugged out wayne that was skateboarding, a talented but soft upcomer in Drake and the next best thing in female rap in nikki

I didnt really start listenin to Drake till around 15-16 when IYRTITL dropped and then after he dropped that mixtape with Future, actually only started fukkin with Future around that time too when he dropped DS2

I feel like around this time is when he really took over the game and started droppin' the biggest hits of his career until now...

So this thread got me goin back to that era, and from what I learned: he built his initial buzz by droppin two mixtapes n paid for features from acts like Trey Songz, etc...

He then gets signed to YM and continues to drop hits and his hooks on songs like Im On One, etc, start bringin him to the forefront of the game

2016 the year he really blew up and became the worldwide music icon he is today

His come-up gotta be a combination of hard work and just being at the right place at the right time plus he is a generational talent (Ghostiders aside, his bars today are still almost the same as when he first started) so yeah, thats what I remember, but as I said earlier I wasnt into his music like that from 09 to 15 so i might not know the whole story

Hometown of Cherokee at Law
he rapped better than all of them and wrote for a lot of artists behind the scenes.

I don't remember the timeline, did best I ever had come out before he joined Young Money ? That was a big ass hit
In public view, yes. Drake signed to Cash Money in December 08.

There was a thread on here years ago, either Drake was legally battling Birdman, or one of J Prince's sons, but the paperwork came out.
