Why did Drake get the push he did from Young Money?

Drake was the biggest mainstream LYRICIST when rappers weren’t rapping.

Thats my issue with Kendrick’s early career…the guy was doing bargain basement conscious music that wouldn’t be regarded highly in the 90s…but it was just one of the few doing it.
He got the biggest mainstream push and was rapping with Wayne’s cadence. Nothing Drake was spitting was lyrically revolutionary. He was just brave enough to rap “soft” and give somewhat what vulnerable vibes. Dot absolutely benefited from a weak era. You’re not wrong. But Drake and by extension Cole, kinda made it easy for a dot to come outta nowhere and be the 3rd horseman in the “big 3” because Cole and Drake were eveybit apart of that “weak” era. Because dot was the only one rapping beyond forelorning milleanial surface level shyt. Blame Drake for making Kendrick’s foray as simple as ever. I remember when GKMC dropped. It’s sounded more important than anything any of the other new school millenial rappers were dropping

What do you mean “push”? This is revisionist history - Drake never got a PUSH. The nikka came polished with undeniable hits out the gate and was going bar for bar with Wayne on their initial releases. nikka already had half of So Far Gone recorded. Tyga to this day doesn’t have 1 project on that level let alone his follow up releases.

Hell prior to So Far Gone, Drake already had Room for Improvement and Comeback Season on the streets that were getting a lot of downloads. Half of the Coli already hated Drake as soon as he got on the scene and they had to watch him dominate and become a musical legend the last 10-15 years. The nikkas a light skinned Jewish rapper from Canada you think he was getting a push? :mjlol: The nikka kicked the doors down.

OP must’ve been in an Afghanistan cave in that time period

Not saying I disagree, but those are literally reasons why he WOULD get a push :laff: :laff:

But you’re leaving out the part that he had to make good music :dahell:

Did the nikka have mind control over us the past 15 years?

He released a wide range of music over the years that we fukked with. Even if you didn’t like ALL the shyt he made, if you fukked with hip hop the last decade Drake has 2-3 joints you had in rotation. Whether for the whip, the gym, while with a bytch, in the club. The nikka music was the soundtrack to a lot of people coming up in their 20s/30s and early 40s now.

I can't think of any rapper from Canada that was popular before Drake. Mixed Jewish rappers definitely weren't a thing. I still remember somebody saying Obama was the reason Drake blew up. It was all kinds of crazy reasons as to why he blew up except the obvious: people liked the music. I remember being in the barbershop and there were 17-20 year olds in there talking about Drake like he was Jay Z or Nas. We can clown him now, but Drake was an anomaly. He actually was respected to the point where DJ Premier was hurt over him having writers. There are a lot of former Drake stans on here that used to prop him as a lyricist that changed their tune once he was caught with writers.

I had to tell one of my coworkers this. I haven't rocked with Drake in years (ever since the Scorpion era he's fallen off to me and that era he was already on fumes). But nikkas pretending that Drake was a nepo baby or that he got pushed are being ridiculous. People have forgotten what the rap game was like in 2006, 2007, 2008. Nobody was trying to listen to some soft emo-looking nikka from Canada. I remember watching 106th & Park when Drake debuted Replacement Girl back in the day and it was CRICKETS. Everybody in the audience was like "Who this? Can we listen to Ludacris" :mjlol: Nikkas was like Canada? :dahell:

Drake is a cornball but, he definitely had to force his way in the industry. Now people wanna act like it was inevitable. Nah, it was because he was nice. Room for Improvement was ehh. Comeback Season was when I personally realized he had potential and when he dropped So Far Gone, it was over.

Edit:

After 15 years, this video still hasn't hit 900K views yet LOL.

Agreed. People revising history. What I will say is Drake worked with what he had. He obviously was getting money from Degrassi. He had enough money to get Trey Songs to do songs with him. But nikkas were not fukkin with ole boy at first. He had to be nice enough to convince people to overlook him being a weird-looking nikka from Canada and he eventually did. Saying otherwise is cap. It would be like a rapper coming out of North Dakota right now in 2024. That nikka would have to be nice because he'd look extra corny at first.
