Why did Drake get the push he did from Young Money?

What do you mean “push”? This is revisionist history - Drake never got a PUSH. The nikka came polished with undeniable hits out the gate and was going bar for bar with Wayne on their initial releases. nikka already had half of So Far Gone recorded. Tyga to this day doesn’t have 1 project on that level let alone his follow up releases.

Hell prior to So Far Gone, Drake already had Room for Improvement and Comeback Season on the streets that were getting a lot of downloads. Half of the Coli already hated Drake as soon as he got on the scene and they had to watch him dominate and become a musical legend the last 10-15 years. The nikkas a light skinned Jewish rapper from Canada you think he was getting a push? :mjlol: The nikka kicked the doors down.

Not saying I disagree, but those are literally reasons why he WOULD get a push :laff: :laff:

Short minded question lol

Drake came in with buzz from his collabs with Trey Songz

then he started going around to different regions and catching fire

linked with Wayne and got a major cosign

after that he dropped so far gone, successful and best I ever had put him on and then he signed to YM and we know how That went

Didnt think he’d be necessarily where he is today but his longevity is impressive

He was popping prior. It was clear tho that Drake, Nikki and Tyga were the only ones worth pushing. Gudda wasn't a rapper and just Wayne weed man that told him to rap. He has the looks and tried but no one was checking for him. Lil Twist was a working project due to his age but clearly never worked out. Lil Chuckee was one ugly ass kid that has no business being anywhere near a camera and was horrible on the mic. Mack Manye had zero mainstream appeal. I don't think Cory Gunnz was signed yet at that time. Chanel was basic as fukk. Jae Millz was cool and maybe was the only other person that had a shot of being a someone. I don't remember anyone else....

1. Drake was marketable and was mentored by a post C3 Wayne. YM literally had all the resources at his hands.

2. Wayne was about to do that 1 year sentence so Drake was able to accomplish a lot during 2009. Damn near everyone wanted a feature from him. I remember that year perfectly.

3. He followed the Kanye blueprint(no pun intended). So Far Gone had definitely put the industry on notice for him.

4. Drake didn’t need Wayne to hold his hand. Within a year, he became bigger than the whole YM. Nicki did have the better Debut album though. Tyga was 3rd behind Nicki and Drake.

Luckily, Drake fixed the prob with Thank Me Later and it resulted in Take Care. The beats on Take Care were a bit more darker.

Plenty knew him from Degrassi too

YM had to clean him up a little….

Dude had no swag when he came to YM and was looking like a dork.

My dude came to Texas with a Polo and some Dockers on.

Thankfully, Drake didn’t grow Dreads
