idris' accent in the wire was shaky at best. in general, most people faking accents are not particularly good at them unless they are doing a strong accent that can allow for over acting.

but back on subject, hollywood has a tendency to give roles to one or two hot negroes at a time. 2013 was an aberration in terms of black people getting meaningful roles. they seem like they favor blacks from the UK, to be honest it will only be a handful and it will be a fad. black activity in mainstream movies is cyclical with a few male stalwarts like denzel and will smith as the exceptions. in other words, dont read much into it.

Post made alot of The Wire stans defensive.. but I have to agree.... Even tho I don't think his accent was shaky... he sounded "American" but he did not sound like someone from Baltimore (he uses the same accent in all of his American roles). When an American actor does a UK accent.. the UK movie fans will be quick to pick it apart. But alot of these "outside" actors that do American accents are in the same boat... like True Blood is a perfect example... The English and Australian actors on there sound "southern" but they don't sound like they're from Louisiana at all...

They get a pass because people either don't know any better or because their performance outweighs the accent itself... accents really are not that important.. and it doesn't take a big talented actor to do them... Some are just better than others... Hell, comedian's are great at impersonating accents...
