idris' accent in the wire was shaky at best. in general, most people faking accents are not particularly good at them unless they are doing a strong accent that can allow for over acting.

He's Nigerian but he can put on a great American accent :manny:

when he's acting

Not sure that counts. but dude is a underrated actor. When I heard him in a interview... I was like down he puts on a good American accent

It's very rare that you will see two back to back posts like this that will make other posters :mindblown: :why: :comeon: :what: but yall two accomplished that

Shut up

I was just pointing out the difference between his accents in interviews and his acting

If you can't hear the difference the interviews and the scenes then fukk it.

Y'all say he grew up as a American well no shyt. Why the fukk does he have a Nigerian accent in his interviews then?

:what:

Most people didn't even know Elba was British until they heard him speak in interviews and such.

Anyway, the thing is that many American actors (not just black actors) didn't study acting and really can't step outside their lane. Foreign actors (especially British actors) often tend to have a theater background, so they're more experienced with playing different characters and accents. Even so, you have guys like Don Cheadle and Jeffrey Wright who do have strong backgrounds in acting and it shows in their work, which is a lot more diverse than most black actors.
i had no problem hearing the flaws in his accent. if you didnt then that's ok

http://www.contactmusic.com/story/idris-elba-s-barbershop-accent_3896711

if you look at my second post in here, i said he sounded like a mix of irish and new york, come to find out he learned how to play a baltimore resident by practicing his accent in new york barbershops. maybe my ears are more sensitive than yours, but he stood out like a sore thumb.

bodie also sounded out of place...
