Mixed emotions...the downsides are clearly documented...it can be refined and regulated more (but thats on us, not the church exclusively) but the upsides aren't even spoken on.

Today, i can go to BLACK run churches around the nation and get shelter, food, and free consuling...as well as networking opportunities...all while being myself as myself. We do away with that, what we have to supplement that void? Liberal white benevolence?! Ha! Barbershops? No food n shelter there

Ive been to church service outside of funerals less than 5 times in my life. Im not religious in the traditional sense, so my words aint from a "oohh lawd" perspective, but we need to view shyt in a more holistic value, cause nikkas tend to forget WE AINT WHITE. They can shyt on church and completely abandon it, and it would have a marginal effect on them....but we aint in that boat.

Thats before even considering the fact that most are religious in their conduct regardless of their religious practice in the traditional sense, as its aleady been aluded to in this thread.

Talking about the white man on your off time and working for him on your own time is a religion in and of itself, but ill digress

:ohhh::wow:

problem is when you have access to info like this Black Churches Have Collected $420 Billion? | Urban Intellectuals
it's hard to support. 420 billion untaxed and we never see it reflected in the communities. I live down the street from World Changers and it's ridiculous that this nikka asked for 65 million for a jet with that street looking the way it does. Access to information is what's killing a lot of what we "millennials" were told was the "proper" way to live life.

Exact;y This!!!!

When I first got got to the black COGIC church. I believed all the sob stories the pastor was telling...completely ignoring that this dude is pushing a luxury vehicle and wearing armani suits and his family of 6 doin the same.
Then over the years of being there, I realized that the church is paying for all their shyt! And all of that "The church didn't buy any of our stuff" was all a lie. Eventually everyone in that church began to see the truth and leave.
Then when the church folded, all the lies came tumbling down and the family folded. Without all the church money to prop them up, cars got repossessed, house got sold, the pastor and his wife split town and left the grown ass kids to fend for themselves. Just...a house of corrupt cards...all crashing down.

Just another day in the black church...

Another issue I have this the tap dancing and shouting. I was never a fan of those types of services.

You do know that was a West African thing right? That came from the “ring shout” which came from Black Muslims in South Carolina and Georgia who converted and built their own churches. How y’all talk about all this African religions stuff and not know this?

Y’all just think everything in the Black Church came from whites when that couldn’t be further from the truth. Every song that’s sung in the Black Church came straight from slaves and no one else. It is it’s own thing. Y’all say it was used to keep slaves in check but the most rebellious slaves were all apart of the Black Church so which one is it?

Of course there’s church hustlers that’s the case in every group. There’s white folks sellin prayer water that came from the faucet. Y’all gotta do a better job of weening them out. You got some black pastors who came up under white folks they are the agents. No one really associates with them except their followers who are under a cult and don’t know it.

Above the fray.
I'm way past the stage of finger pointing my parents or older generations for what they believe or how they worship. Human beings have certain needs for guidance and structure. The church and the preacher served that purpose for generations of our people aside from the actual spiritual component. Public figures who are lifecoaches, internet or youtube celebs are essentially serving that function for modern generation. From my observations of Black folks (diaspora and from the continent) these figures..religious and otherwise...seem to fill some deeper need for us.
Part of it is that it speaks to our need to be part of groups. That film quote about "Black people need to feel like they are part of something" has played out before my eyes in every circle or socio economic group I've traveled in our seen...and every age range.

Having said all that.Meaning no disrespect to anybody or what their personal beliefs are, but there are some truths and facts that have be acknowledged in this discussion.
Enslaved Africans were absolutely forced to adopt western Christianity and abandon (or hide) whatever belief systems they had under chattel slavery. Not opinion, but fact.

Religion was important and it was necessary for our growth as a species.

It was a placeholder for the gaps in our knowledge at the time.

but now people are starting to take the training wheels off and see the world for what it really is.

And that's whats supposed to happen when a society evolves

In fact....I'm willing to bet that if there is life on other planets each and every one of those alien lifeforms would have probably went through an era where they once had a religion then eventually grew past it.

There shouldn't be a coincidence that the death of religion coincides with the so called "information age" where everyone in the world is connected to the internet and has the world's knowledge at their fingertips.

Loved the way Patton Oswalt broke this down.
