Why are these music critics turning on Drake now?

I haven't read through the thread, but came in to say this. Drake was never a critical favorite. It'd be one thing if he was getting 85 and above for all of his releases on Metacritic, but he hasn't. With this album, it's his fourth one, and he hasn't really shown any growth or done anything that pushed him or the genre forward. He's supposed to be a leader, but he really hasn't done anything ground breaking.

Take Care is the album IMO, where he really came into his own. I think he regressed with Nothing Was The Same because it seemed like he was folding under pressure. It seemed like he was giving into the criticism of him being too soft, so he tried to compensate with "Started From The Bottom" and "Worst Behavior".

If Take Care is a 78 - borderline great album the current album being at 69% is fair.

Critics have never turned on Kanye because he's a genius. Sorry brehs. Career average 80 on Metacritic from 9 albums. The lowest of which isn't a proper album.

For me the album took a direction I didn't expect. His first 3 were Solid albums to me but this is just different, I can't tell if it is wack or just not what I was expecting.

Don't know what you were expecting because the formula is pretty consistent between all his albums

I'm not a big drake fan like that, I do listen to his stuff and enjoyed his previous albums but this hasn't grown on me.

Im not a Drake fan, and I heard it and think it was trash. But just to be a bit objective-- how tf would an album grow on you in like 3 days???

The whole phrase, "it grew on me" is usually said after repeated listening over weeks or months-

My point is what weight does a music critique opinion hold on music? I am responding to the idea that Music critiques are somehow shaping the narrative of how people feel about music. Isn't that what this thread is about?

Cole's fhd has a lower score than drake's views. Just looked it up. Those scores don't matter.

so.... what does matter? :jbhmm:
