I agree... But how you gonna make this thread and not mention Drake :stopitslime:

What screams "Obsessed with YOUR girl" more than Marvin's Room?

But I think the young gawd Future summed it best

:lawd: great reply, lol.

But yeah, hip hop definitely shifted from celebrating personal accomplishments, and in collaboration with that attempting to inspire the listener, to deriving pleasure from the downfall of its audience. In the past 10 or so years its been about how superior the rapper is to the listener in every way imaginable, and also how the rapper has the resources and the ability to take the possessions from the audience at the mere snap of a finger. They're the predators, we're the pray. Once hip hop became popularized, it began to take its cues from the society at large, which is self-loathing and bows to celebrity and fame. As a collective we deify celebrity and feel like we arent worthy.

This brings up the point (and another Chris Rock joke) about how over the years it's becoming harder to defend hip hip..

I remember when a rapper was on Bill Mahr and was asked "Why is all hip hop now about me having more money, jewels, cars and a finer chick than you?"

And his answer was about people just being so happy to escape poverty it becomes a celebration..They are just so excited about their new found riches and fame..

But when you've been in the game making millions for 15 years and its still your narrative then it becomes harder to defend..

"Oh so you pulled up to the club in that new thang and took my baby mama in '98 and you're still doing it in 2013?"

Really breh?

Thread is comedy but at the same time the main rappers that talk about being players all seem to fukk the same circle of 5-10 escorts/models/video hoes/whatever.

There is no reason for Joe Budden and Drake to be pulling the same chick.

Future- That's my hoe - YouTube

That Drake song is different because he's talking about about a girl he had a relationship with and lost...

I'm talking about the songs like "Look at my Gucci belt, your b1tch is on my dikk"

Right....thats because rappers started to reflect the ethos of the record execs who pimp them --- the 1%. The one percent gathers a lot of its strength from having things that the 99% doesnt have...and if you have something of value, they'll take it from you. Its pleasure at the expense of another's discomfort or pain.

They're not happy if you're happy. Its funny how they chide the audience as being "haters", when most top rappers act like the ultimate insecure haters.

Hm...interesting thread gator...

If I agree with No Bammer Weed....it's basically the braggadocious aspect of Hip Hop now. They have better cars than you, have more money than you, and can fukk your girl at will.

But then again, bragging has always been a part of rap...be it being the superior MC, the harder thug or the better lover.

5 star thread. I was thinkin about this the other day. shyt is annoying to me. But what I dont like is how it rubbed off on regular everyday nikkas and they think because they go out and spend foolish amounts of money on some overpriced material item and wear it out somewhere that they got hoes now. nikkas will go out and buy Gucci on sale and if a girl even glances at it once its "your girl on my dikk" :dead:
