Hmongs, Cambodians, and Laotians have the same unemployment rates as Black people. Hmong and Cambodian Americans have the lowest per capita income, highest high school drop out rates, and the highest rates of poverty among all groups. I would say there is some systematic oppression going on with them, but since they are lumped with other Asian Americans, people think they dont need help.
What does this have to do with East Asians and working to death, studying to death, putting community above individual and having parents who predetermine your life?

I think a clarification needs to be made, I was talking about Asians in America facing oppression (and subsequent suicide rates, poverty rates, no political organizing in the U.S. ), but I think you are talking about east Asians in Asia.
But I didn't realize this has now gone to the race track, so let me get out of here
for the same reason we're the happiest with military life. this society is unfair to us the most. i understand other groups may take bigger losses in society, but they have big wins to counter it. not the same for bw. negativity all the time.
this reminds me of the military happiness study where the less privileged a person was in society, the more they preferred working in the military (clear pay standards, ranking etc)
privileged people dislike fairness and don't know how to handle losses as well. men, whites and asians commit it far more than women, blacks or mixed hispanics. the only group that doesn't fit this is lgbt (commit more than hetero), but how many lgbt are out their whole life? they don't learn early on how to deal with discrimination then when they're out can't handle the loss of hetero privilege.
