Really, competition. Iron sharpens iron. Our soccer pool isn't like other countries'. When our best players go at it, they're not improving faster than when other countries' best players play each other.

Also straight up, soccer isn't about who's the most explosive or the better athlete. A lot of the best soccer players are shorter than the average person. Low center of gravity with great coordination really ends up dominating in plenty of situations while high pointing is an advantage for taller players.

^^ that means much more competition because the playing pool opens up:

Scouts are looking at both the 6'8 player and the 5'5 player, which you got to get through more people who can beat you and your team in different ways to be at the top.

Imagine a striker with the skill, stature, and charisma of Odell Beckham jr emerges in the USA.

I will also add that the US does not really support sports they didn't invent(baseball, NFL) or dominate(NBA). That's a big problem as well.
The US dominates Basketball because it’s OUR SPORTS.

It was created and cultivated on American soil so I don’t know why you felt the need to separate it from the other sports.

And yes I know James Naismith was Canadian.

Have a population of 500 mill and still suck at the world's most popular sport brehs. :mjcry:

About 175 million too high but thanks.
Simple answer Americans Don't give a flip about soccer on the whole.

When we lost in the Greek Olympics in basketball. EVERY American sport fan was appalled and embarrassed. There was a shakeup to ensure it doesn't happen again.

When We failed to qualify for this WC your average American sport fan didn't even realized we were playing in qualifiers and shrugged.

Soccer is an after thought here. Hard to explain if you haven't lived here.

when this is the norm and not the bullshyt youth soccer culture that exists in america.

This will never happen in USA most Americans will see it as low key child abuse/exploitation. And they wouldn't be wrong.

Crazy when you think how early clubs sign these players up. Even earlier today Ferdinand was talking about Lingard being signed to United at 11.

/

All jokes aside USA had a decent run in the 2014 world cup. Beat Ghana, drew with Portugal, made it to the last 16. I think it just comes down to football not being that popular in the states. All the attention goes to NFL, NBA, MLB etc.

Its kinda like basketball in the UK, it's just not a popular sport.
