Of course them but I was thinking more of an international teal with multiple nba players on it

Point is the gap isn’t as wide as it once was. Still wide yes, but no where near as much.

The best international players all play in the NBA. If you’re talking a game between the best American players and best foreign players in general then yeah they would be very competitive

But that’s not what the context of this. They’re talking about NBA champions not being world champs because they didn’t win a tournament against the best Euroleague team, best Australian league team, best Chinese team, etc. similar to the FIBA Club World Cup

Losing by 20 vs 40 :pachaha:
the nuggets vs “world all stars” would be competition sure.

The Nuggets vs The Beijing Ducks would be less competitive than nuggets vs eastern michigan in Denver.

This is only a strange comment to Americans.

Everyone outside of the US thinks it’s odd as fukk.

This has nothing to do with whether the NBA is the best league but rather an observation on how a competition featuring teams only representing North American cities is somehow global (regardless of the nationalities of the players)

No one in UEFA Champions league refers to themselves as the world champ and that features the best players / teams / leagues

i think there has been a movement over the years to move away from using the phrase “World Champion” anyway

Like they've already pointed out, they don't say world champions any more. so the point is moot.

but us men's basketball dominates in the Olympics anyways so most of these dudes are in fact world champs.

Yes because you can only earn that title by winning a worldwide or international competition (which man city did btw by winning the club world cup)
otherwise Man city's title in your analogy would be nothing more than self proclamation.

Nba champs and other American sports champ can self ordain themselves as world champs all they want, they just look arrogant, ignorant and foolish to the rest of the world

If y’all so desperately want to see the top American teams shyt on foreign squads to prove a point that we all know is true then be my guest :manny:

Above the fray.
And yet he will get attention

Professional athletes do shyt like this every day, and we are all in for the fukkery.

If it brings more eyes to Track I am all for it.

Can tell that this isn't his natural personality though. If it were, he would have said ahead of the Worlds. And it would have drawn attention to his races.

Saying it afterwards will draw attention for 15 minutes, until the American public moves on the sports that are king here, like college football and the NFL.

I follow him as a runner, he is the REAL DEAL , but T&F is just not a popular sport here. Outside of a few superstars every few years, people just don't care for the sport here. These antics won't change that.

NBA recognition as the world's best basketball league just isn't enough huh. They need extra unearned titles

Poorly thought out gimmick. He's setting himself to be the heel in the country he represents. In a sport with minimal domestic audience.

Would work better if an international runner tried this act.

Would also work better if the current NBA. wasn't stocked with record number of international players

Devil's advocate:

It's pretty much accepted by everyone that the premier league is by far the best soccer league.

Yet they still play teams from other leagues In tournaments and friendlies.

Is this just a basketball thing?

Or an American thing?

A large chunk of recent MVP's come from these leagues right? ( And Luka hasn't even won HIS yet)

:jbhmm:

they've done this in preseason and most times if the nba team is being serious they smoke those other teams.

You can do a champions league type format and have the top teams competing from the strong leagues and that would get some airplay. But most parts I think the nba teams end up winning that as well.

the nba teams technically are not world champions but can argue they are the best basketball team in the world.
