I'm a big basketball fan but, I don't ever recall the NBA calling themselves World Champions after winning the title. I've always heard NBA Champions as a reference, only on 2K have I heard an NBA champion being referred to as World Champions

I think Lyles is jealous of the players because despite him being a Gold Olympic Medalist winner, not many people know who he is At least to my knowledge, his name isn't popping like a few of the other track runners and this is his way of getting his name out there.
He'll gain new supporters who despise American athletes (or just America in general) on top of the already critical NBA haters (y'all know who they are) in America, he kinda gives me Jonathan Issac (from the Magic) vibes.

The same way we recruit young dudes internationally. International teams would be doing the same thing to us. Offering better contracts to dudes out of highschool and college.
