I agree with Noah Lyles.

The US is NOT the whole world.

And the argument that the best players play in the NBA is somewhat debatable.

But more than that…if the argument for calling it the world championship is because the best players play here, then it’s only true for as long as the best play here. If 20 years from now the best players are in France, does France then get to name their champions “world champions”? Somehow I don’t think Americans would take too kindly to that no matter what they say right now.

Frankly this whole thing just shines a light on how true it is that we Americans have the biggest ego on earth, with increasingly less reason to do so.

This is what’s making this an actual (silly) debate.

You should have stopped at the first part, bc that’s it, that’s the entire point. Nothing else needed to be said

But when you add the bolded you just destroy all credibility and make them think they have a point. Of course the best players are in the nba :what: Tf

Maybe you’re thinking ‘the best players aren’t American’. That could I suppose be debated. But the NBA is from multiple countries. To say the best aren’t in the nba is just ignorant

But when you add the second part you just destroy all credibility and make them think they have a point is irrelevant. Of course thr best players are in the nba :what: Tf

It’s silly for you to ignore the rest of my post. Because it explains the part you quoted.

The rest of your point is irrelevant and quite frankly does more to poke holes and leave room for ‘debate’

The US is not the world. Calling a US-only league a world championship is erroneous.

The end. Fastest path, straight line

Corny white boy on Facebook commentary by track boy. I don’t even think the NBA even leans into the “world champion” schtick the way the NFL or MLB does
And for what reason should the NFL not do so? :childplease:

I think you want it to be a semantic one, when it clearly isn't.

Lyles isn't saying anything about the standard of play between he leagues. He isn't saying Euroleague's champ is better than the NBA champ. He isn't saying Asia's basketball league champ is better than the NBA champ. He isn't saying the African league's continental champ is better than the NBA champ. He is saying the NBA can't say they are the world champions because they haven't beaten teams from all over the world. They have only won the NBA title. This isn't hard. You don't want to address that simple point because its a mind-blowingly rational statement---its really just commonsense, tbf---that goes against everything you the American sports fan has been indoctrinated to believe.
But the NBA champs are better than all those league champions mentioned.

Who wants to waste time watching an NBA team playing those league champions in a playoff series?

Serbian Nikola Jokic actually being US national champion sounds much more fukking stupid than calling the best basketball team in the world, world champions. Every track runner is a part of team USA. Everyone’s American as a rule so it’s a terrible comparison anyway
