There is no "if." That's Lyles point. They wouldn't do that because they haven't earned that distinction.
Yeah, and my point is that Lyles's point is a semantic one and not one based in basic facts and sense.

I get it, some of you need to see the Nuggets beat Real Madrid and the Sydney Kings in a high-variance tournament before you understand that, in fact, they are the best team in the world. The rest of us know that they earned the distinction of best in the world as soon as they won the NBA. Hey, if they ran that tournament, I'd watch it. I'll watch Manchester City walk the Club World Cup this year, but I don't need to see them do it before I declare them the best soccer team in the world. because I have a speck of common sense about the strength of the UEFA champ in comparison to the strength of every other continental champ.

I think you want it to be a semantic one, when it clearly isn't.

Lyles isn't saying anything about the standard of play between he leagues. He isn't saying Euroleague's champ is better than the NBA champ. He isn't saying Asia's basketball league champ is better than the NBA champ. He isn't saying the African league's continental champ is better than the NBA champ. He is saying the NBA can't say they are the world champions because they haven't beaten teams from all over the world. They have only won the NBA title. This isn't hard. You don't want to address that simple point because its a mind-blowingly rational statement---its really just commonsense, tbf---that goes against everything you the American sports fan has been indoctrinated to believe.

No, it's clearly a semantic one. You don't want it to be, and I understand that. You are irritated that an American-based league is making this claim. You want them to have to go play the EuroBasket champ, even if we both know it would be essentially pointless, to make a claim that is obvious if you use simple logic. It's the same issue people bring up with the World Series being named that way (nevermind that it's named after a newspaper, IIRC). I get it; you don't like the America-centric nature of the claim.

Which is fine! Please feel free to be irritated. But everyone with any sense understands why an NBA team that won the NBA Championship would be fine calling themselves the champs of the world without having played an extra mid-season tournament so that they could formalize it for the rest of you.

You want them to have to go play the EuroBasket champ,
Nope, I literally don't care.

It's the same issue people bring up with the World Series being named that way (nevermind that it's named after a newspaper, IIRC).
What you shared here about the World Series is an excellent example of how indoctrination works.

And I'm not irritated, I am more bemused. You and a few others are calling him an idiot and clown for saying something that's obvious solely because you've been indoctrinated to see sports one way when most of the world don't.

Did I call Lyles an idiot or clown? I don't recall that. Maybe you can quote where I did.

Anyway, you seem to care enough to keep responding to me about this. Let's just agree to disagree, breh. You think that my claim is about indoctrination and not about assessing real life facts in evidence.

I'd hope the rest of the world hasn't been indoctrinated to value a nonsensical, dogmatic belief about how to determine the best teams in the world regardless of the sport or the context. Somehow, I doubt you speak for the rest of the world, but yeah, feel free to believe what you believe.

He spoke facts technically speaking, In other non-US dominated sports, nobody calls the best tournaments, leagues etc. World anything. Not even the NHL.

But it’s also unnecessary facts and the tone he used was like he was shytting on them. He should’ve chosen Baseball instead too, instead of there brehdem, world champion is not even some type of official shyt in the nba right? While in baseball it is. So it’s just some dumb smart babble tryna make fun outta nikkas for the crackas.

Did he even lift the fact that there’s a World championship going on right now? Where many nba players would rather lie on their bed and play nba 2k and wait for the nba season than playing that :jbhmm:

I’m actually surprised at this backlash. Probably his delivery. Bc he’s obviously correct. :wtf:

And I don’t think he was even trying to say ‘they can’t say they’re best in the world’. He’s making the very simple point that “world” champions are given to countries, not teams. That’s the whole point of Olympics and World cups :wtf:

Name another ‘world champion’ that isnt an actual country or person representing a country :wtf:
