Former president Trump won the Conservative Political Action Conference straw poll on Sunday, with 55 percent of respondents saying they would vote for Trump in the 2024 presidential primary.

The poll is conducted annually at CPAC by secret ballot. Florida governor Ron DeSantis received 21 percent in the same survey, while no other candidate broke roughly five percent.

Attendees of CPAC also approved of Trump’s performance as president by 97 percent but only 68 percent said they wanted him to run again.

However, in a poll of potential 2024 candidates without Trump, DeSantis received 43 percent of the vote while South Dakota governor Kristi Noem drew 11 percent. Both governors are staunch Trump allies who have toutedtheir states’ refusal to extend full lockdowns during the coronavirus pandemic.

how often does the winner of the cpac straw poll win the republican nomination.... i don't know the answer to that question, i'm legitimately curious....

Rarely, it doesn’t mean much aside from a pulse check for the moment.

Overall, Mitt Romney holds the record of winning more CPAC straw polls than any other individual, with four. Ronald Reagan, Jack Kemp and Rand Paul follow with three consecutive wins each, followed by Ron Paul with two wins. Of these five, the Pauls are the only two to win more than one straw poll, yet never appear on a Republican presidential ticket in any election (although Ron Paul did receive one Electoral College vote in 2016)

The nomination is Trump's if he wants it

And those of you who say he can't win the presidency again are fukking stupid (sorry)

With all of his constant, unrelenting incompetence, dishonesty, bigotry and shamelessness fresh on people's minds, he was around 43,000 votes away from staying in the white house. JUST 43,000 VOTES!

Imagine once people have had a few years to forget about how awful he was.

He's probably not afraid of Trump,

In general, everyone knows he is the only person who has a guaranteed half the nation as a potential base.

The focus should be on if the Dems will actually put up a Valid candidate this time. A progressive, not a Biden type... or a candidate that voters have to tolerate just cuz they dont want to vote gop.

Dems have a chance at losing if they think Kamala is a valid candidate

At this point the Republican nomination is Trump's if he wants it, regardless of if the party doesn't like it. I still tend to think he won't run though due to old age/health (he'll be 78 by 2024).

I'm more curious to see what the polls will look like if Trump announces he won't run again. I guess Republican voters will just vote for whoever Trump tells them to :manny:
He won’t run but he will have someone by the balls to do as he says

Desantis/Nikki Haley (Nikki will be the counter to Kamala)

nah, the republicans will bush nikki haley for an actual white woman (noem) in about two seconds

thats why its so disgusting and pathetic to watch her sell her soul to these idiots :mjlol:

WTF are you talking about? The GOP establishment loves Nikki Haley. She can't win the GOP nomination, but I can easily see her being picked as VP to unify the party.
