At this point the Republican nomination is Trump's if he wants it, regardless of if the party doesn't like it. I still tend to think he won't run though due to old age/health (he'll be 78 by 2024).

I'm more curious to see what the polls will look like if Trump announces he won't run again. I guess Republican voters will just vote for whoever Trump tells them to :manny:

As I said in previous threads the name to look out for is Mike Pompeo. Trump is unlikely going to run again in four years because of his health and his many many legal issues awaiting him. Pompeo never criticized Trump even after Jan 6th. He is a former senator that means he has ties with the GOP elite. However since he stuck by Trump the base will like him. All Pompeo will need is Trumps backing and he wins the nominee. He is very far right which is a plus for the base. He is a competent right winger. The GOP elites will back him because is inst incompetent like Trump and also he is very far right wing so that will satisfy the base.
Anyone who thinks the GQP will moderate is hella naive. They already are passing state laws in swings states to enhance voter suppression. They are going to go all out in gerrymandering. They control the majority of federal courts which means challenges to voter suppression will struck down. They cannot moderate too because their base is more radical, more unhinged then ever. We have reached the point where tens of millions of Americans think violence is the only way to maintain white power. This is why the majority of Republicans voted to acquit Trump. They fear the base which is shrinking every year but is still powerful. The base have seen moderates like McCain and Romney losing to Obama twice. And saw Trump a far right winger popular with the base winning in 2016 and “got the election stolen” from him in 2020. So yeah there is no incentive for the party to turn back.
Gotta agree with this post. Pompeo in the cut not making himself to visible at the moment but the right wing knows he has trumps ear and he’s good with the establishment too. I think this cocky fekkit may be the nominee.

I would be surprised just because he seems very unpleasant and not personable at all

desantis is like a 50/50 mix of george bush and trump, plus hes the governor of the fukkery capital of america. i actually see no scenario where hes not the nominee if he really wants it :dead:

Former president Trump won the Conservative Political Action Conference straw poll on Sunday, with 55 percent of respondents saying they would vote for Trump in the 2024 presidential primary.

The poll is conducted annually at CPAC by secret ballot. Florida governor Ron DeSantis received 21 percent in the same survey, while no other candidate broke roughly five percent.

Attendees of CPAC also approved of Trump’s performance as president by 97 percent but only 68 percent said they wanted him to run again.

However, in a poll of potential 2024 candidates without Trump, DeSantis received 43 percent of the vote while South Dakota governor Kristi Noem drew 11 percent. Both governors are staunch Trump allies who have [URL='https://www.nationalreview.com/news/desantis-defends-covid-record-needling-critics-the-lockdown-states-got-it-wrong/']toutedtheir states’ refusal to extend full lockdowns during the coronavirus pandemic.
