Bodie was nowhere NEAR the most complex character on the show. Hell, he was barely more complex than Marlo. If you're looking for a soft/hard street character, you're better off looking at Michael or Namond.

Bodie was a GREAT character, but not as complex as others.

hardly any of the characters in the wire were complex if you really think about it

:rudy:

The dope thing they did with Bodie was turn him from a villian early in the series to someone you actually felt empathy for at the end due to his hopeless situation even though he was a murderous drug dealer. Not an easy trick. When he got murked my mans texted me, "Is there a heaven for a gangsta!" :to:

better question is: were there any characters that weren't complex/straight-forward good or bad

the closest i can think is marlo: nikka was pure evil

bubbles is complex... he had a good heart & intentions but was a clossal fukk-up in life... even when he tried to do good, he fukked up: when he tried to get clean in season 1 & when he tried taking sherrod under his wing

wire = goat show

:rudy: that's great story telling, not that he was a deep character. All I felt about Bodie was that he was a regular nikka who grew up in the streets, and that his character was relatable...not that there were layers to character

By far, the most complex character was that smut in season four who had a train ran on her in the school bathroom, and then claimed rape on the dudes.

Leaving Randy in the hallway on lookout while she broke off all them dudes :to:

turning on them and claiming rape :damn:

What was this bytches motivation :wtf:

Number 2 would go to the bytch that gave the Bunk the p*ssy, and then stole his shoes. Why this bytch schemin on the Bunk just to steal his shoes? What kind of p*ssy-for-shoes game was she runnin :wtf: :what:

What the fukk is so complex about a junky snitch :heh:

:upsetfavre: whats so complex about another corner boy, that's all Bodie was, only reason Bodie was so popular was just that he was your average corner boy which most dudes felt they could relate to, Bodie never tried to be nothing but a corner boy, never tried to assert himself was a yes man, :russ: when he did try to act all brave and not leave his corner Michael put a bullet in his head

Bubbles was a junky yes but easily the most believable character on there when saw dude at first you could get that junky discust, if you ever been around any real crackheads you know what I mean, then that white boy got beat up, by Bodie ironically and bubbles said you know what fuk this that's not right and even though he would have got killed he started to work as a street informant lol mean while you got Bodie popping poor lil kid Wallace cause he was given the order from mofos who saw him as nothing more than a delivery boy

Bubbles goes on to struggle through recovery, having his cart business, schooling other young cats etc, whole time what is Bodie doing? On the corner wave cap on and spitting, that's the depth of his character

Omar was more complex than Bodie. He was constantly in conflict wit himself....also contradicted himself a lot. He'd have two different convos wit Butchie and then damn near cry when Bunk would raise up on him. He wanted to be Robin hood but when Bunk drop some knowledge on him of how he fukking up and can really help the community he just shrugs it off.

He was no different than the dope boys he was fighting but he couldn't see that. He always thought he was above them but in the end became just another statistic just like them.

show had a lot of flaws and it didn't end well in the final season.
outta curiosity to hear your take, can you elaborate a bit on both points?

Bodie was OK, but I also think he was hyped a bit much too. Personally, most complex character on the show was cold-hearted kills Chris. I wish we would've learned more about him.
