I take it OP means a multi-layered character by complex

Stringer
most def. like breh said it would've been nice to know some info on how he came up, cuz he most def. wasn't no street corner nikka like Avon... He was part of a criminal organization but at the same time he was different in that he had vision and wanted to go legit, plus he was attendin' college at night... I relate a lot to him cuz I came from a rough background too but went to school and went legit....

Frank Sabotka
He was a union leader, a family man, a man with a code, but was also doin' ilegal shyt to keep money in his peoples pockets... U could tell he had a darkside to him despite the image he was tryin' to portray, u just knew he was down for whatever... His charcter shoulda been developed further....

I wanna say Michael, but I dont think his character was really complex, it just showed his transition from a good boy to a thug, n that is very common in the hood... I'd say his character is one of the most interesting ones....

I woulda like to know more about the greek... who was the man everybody ended up workin for.... The show implied he was connected to the feds, n thats how he got away cuz he was tipped by somebody from the fbi when Mculty n them went to arrest him... So he was rich n powerful but spent his days in an old coffee shop...

I agree, Stringer was the most complex. He did come up with Avon, was out there on the corner together (along with Wee-Bey). Avon and Stringer grew up together from childhood and were best friends, you don't remember?

better question is: were there any characters that weren't complex/straight-forward good or bad

the closest i can think is marlo: nikka was pure evil

bubbles is complex... he had a good heart & intentions but was a clossal fukk-up in life... even when he tried to do good, he fukked up: when he tried to get clean in season 1 & when he tried taking sherrod under his wing

wire = goat show
You look at Chris Partlow and see him just kill like it aint nothing but then you see him visiting his family. nikka just wanted his family to be good. Reasons he took the heat for Marlo in the end

Frank Sabotka was real complex and one of the best characters. COLVIN was one of the best on the police side of things.

Frank Sabotka was a crooked union boss. Only difference between him and Avon is the criminalization of black people.

Ziggy had his issues but nothing so complex that the average person couldn't figure out what drove him. He was easy to read; wanting to be the centre of attention, jealous of his cousin being smarter and more respected, father-son relationship etc. Yeah he was a tragic character but he was a screw-up.

Same for Stringer; drug dealer who was desperate to diversify and move into respectability at any cost. What's so complex about that? :why:
im goin thru this thread and im just not buying how some of these are 'complex' :dead:

Btw, the show did Kima dirty after the first season. They should have killed her like they originally planned instead of wasting such a great character.
