Yes NY had dreads back in the day but they didnt popularize it the way the south did

It was to the point where if u saw a dreadhead u ASSUMED he was from down south while NY cats was rockin Caesars and Cali with braids/cornrows

THIS. Even though you had NY rappers rocking dreads since the 80's, the popularization didn't start with NY. Hell, even NY folks would assume you were from down south(particularly Florida) depending on the type of dreads you were rocking(especially free form). Folks in this thread wanna act like they werent actively mocking Black Floridians in past threads and calling them dirty for rocking the free-form(Wicks) style.



The free form(Wicks) style wasn't as popular in the 00's as it is now across the US, but it took off in the last 5-6yrs across the nation. From artist, to rappers, to athletes. That's Florida influence, but folks don't wanna admit it.



But in other thread they'll be calling Florida cats dirty because of the popularity of the wicks style..

But it's hard to popularize something that isn't a trend,and dreads ain't no damn trend for Florida,its a staple there.
I just remember dreads becoming the switchover move as braids/cornrows started dying.
I don't remember it being because of Wayne,but maybe it did at some point
I definitely remember Keef making it where every lil young nikka was getting the dreads.
I got mine because the bay said so
