So in other words, any inconvenient facts that don't support the answer you already convinced yourself as being true don't matter.

Cool.

It's been stated numerous times in this thread already that both in matters relating to hip-hop and black culture beyond hip-hop, that cats been rocking dreads for years if not decades before Lil Jon and these drill music cats came along, but why let the facts get in the way of a good argument?

I literally have locks on my head that are older than some of the people you claim to be influenced to rock locks because of Wayne and trap rappers.

I can speak for what goes on OT, unlike you I travelled:francis:

The dudes I posted were far from poetry jams (which didn’t exist back then)

Lil John and Weezy:mjlol:

They didn’t popularize it, maybe for baby niqqas like you. :mjlol:
Poetry slams started in 84 my man.

You brehs love NY slander. All over a sudden then we're doing poetry while other nikkaz were in the field smh
Ion kno how u managed to come to tht conclusion:pachaha: u obviously heard what u wanted to hear. Im saying tht at one point tha only demographics of nikkas in America rockin dreads were ppl of west Indian heritage and afrocentric beatnik nikkas. :lupe: type of nikkas. Tht changed when lil jon and lil wayne made tht style hot among tha average coming of age nikka in America. You do realize most nikkas in America aren't around much carribeans like tht right? Miami has alot of traffic to and from atl so thts how it got on in tha deep south which as we know was tha main vehicle for pushing black culture in America when it came to hip hop at tha time (early 00s)

no one is saying lil jon or wayne invented dreads:mjlol: they just made them hot among mainstream urban black america. I guarantee tha average nikka in tha hood, be it athlete rapper or whatever tht decided to get dreads during tha last 20 odd years was not thinking about no damn das efx or taleb kweli:mjlol: and as for tha bolded lets not try to broaden tha topic to fit your narrative. Op was speaking from a street perspective, i can tell bcuz he brought up tha bay area & tha only reason he did tht was cuz of tha mac dre, tell me when to go hyphy movement. What Caribbean and beatnik nikkas did with they hair was their thing, u gotta understand majority of aframs aren't even around caribbeans like tht to even get our cues from them, otherwise locs woulda been more popular outside of Caribbean population centers like tha east coast/south florida a long time ago.

Funny thread. I'm a :flabbynsick: nikka from the Bay and I remember when dreads were only rocked by a small number of conscious dudes, black hippies/stoners, or lyrical miracle new york influenced hip hop dudes. Mostly the latter. I always saw it as something New York popularized, at least originally.

Gotta be more specific OP. If you talking about locs that's a Jamaican/South Florida thing. If you talking about dreads it was bay area dudes in the 90s and than some of the rappers like Wayne, lil Jon waka took it main stream and than the Chicago drill young cats made it even more main stream in the early 2010s.

NYC was definitely the first quirk with it especially in rap. Go look at Lord Jamar and Busta Rhymes. Certain people had them like Sway,Bushwick,Pharcyde, and a few other's. Wayne blew that it up when he got on by himself in 04. Mac Dre influenced the Bay to do it. Anything after that is followers.
