Foh all y’all :camby:

That started hip hop-wise and mainstream-wise in NYC and Jersey. Especially Brooklyn.

You come lately niqqas swear it started with y’all?

The atl rappers
The Chi town made it Very Common all over and no longer a unique style.... Sorta taking away from the style.

I had dreads in 1995 and I got the idea from seeing someone else with dreads

I was aware of the fact of dreadlocs since I can remember so I know for got damn sure nobody in Hip Hop STARTED dreadlocs

And I grew up in NC. I had no clue what the Bay even was until way after I was aware of dreadlocs

There's actually nikkas talkin bout LIL WAYNE started cats wearing dreads.

:dead:

I've been seeing knotty heads since as long as I been alive and I've been wearing my own hair locked since '96.

I remember cats on the Pan-Africanism movement with locks when I was just a little kid in the mid-80s.

Even if we're talking on a hip-hop level, cats been rocking locks routinely since about the late 80s, early 90s.

Have no clue when it got popular down south, but I remember seeing videos of Society and even Bushwick Bill with dreads back in the early 90s, way before any of these cats 15 and 20 years later came on the scene.

Where It’s Not Safe
Florida ofc cuz it's right next to the Carribean.

Then ATL & the South in general along with Lil Wayne & Waka POPULARIZED it for the MASSES

Yes NY had dreads back in the day but they didnt popularize it the way the south did

It was to the point where if u saw a dreadhead u ASSUMED he was from down south while NY cats was rockin Caesars and Cali with braids/cornrows

Of course rastas didn't start dreads idiot but Rastas popularized it
And you think most people wear freeform rasta dreads rather than the twists?:mjlol:

How can you popularize a hairstyle when most people don't wear that style? Rastas are natty nikka they don't get their shyt parted & twisted. :laff:

In the Silver Lining
I don't know but I can tell you that in the southeast Lil Wayne directly influenced A LOT of people. People will straight up tell you if you ask. Beyond that, Bob Marley made the style very popular moreso than any American region just by himself.

If the answer ain't Bob Marley and the Rastafarian movement, then the answer is probably wrong.
