Reason why I wouldn't say Nelly is that his influence is undeniable

1) put his city on the hip hop national map......put his crew on, JD snatched up an affiliated act, Chingy, and blew him up
2) embraced and made "country" something to claim.....where you started hearing the word used by other artists, and countrified acts were signed like the "Nappy Roots"
3)AF1s were always big in metro area. Jay Z blew them up more nationally. Nelly "My Adidas'd" AF1s to his large pop audience
1. you mean ludacris, his team was ass, most potential was murphy lee I guess, Nelly is synymous with St. Louis but outside of him who else? NWA put Compton on the map which opened the doors for countless others, only Nelly and Chingy were popping, when they faded so did St. Louis.

3. I'll you give you this, his second album resonates with me more than his first just off Air Forces.

25-32 year olds didn’t give a fukk about busta rhymes beyond Touch It, The Jump Jump song, Baby If You Give It To Me & His Look At Me Now verse.
Stop it I just turned 32 and I distinctly remember watching the 'Put ya hands' video on the BOX music channel.

I remember listening to the Genesis album with my pops as well.

Brehs used to bump pass the courvesier in middle school...Light Ya ass on fire.

Wrong age bracket because I was born in 90 and Busta is a fukking legend to me and everyone who was in my grade.

Big Sean lists EM.as an inspiration...he begged his mom to buy the MM LP when he was a yute. He talks about in an interview.

Thanks for the correction, it was Luda.
The Nelly effect in terms of blowing up HUGE where he came from, gave acts from places that weren't established a better shot at record deals. Him doing it with no major artist co-signing him also helped unsigned acts have a better shot.
I imagine that record labels imagined that they could duplicate partial success if they could just produce that one monster hit.
