And were back! :youngsabo:

Another debate worthy question. Seeing how the last thread on Jesus (ISA) in Islam pretty much ran its course:

Let’s go back one step further and look at John the Baptist...... but from a Muslim perspective :jbhmm:

I just stumbled upon a really good video on the topic

He’s a really complex historical/religious figure and interesting story if you really get into it. Most seem to ignore it today.

So Thoughts? Open to Muslims (and Christians Jews or whoever else really cares to weigh in).

Seems to me John the Baptist and his own sect of followers was instrumental in the development of Islam’s views on Jesus or at least an Influence in the thought of some early Christians who were viewed as Heretical.

ESPECIALLY considering the point made at 1 hour 18 minutes to 1:19:30 seconds in.

But I digress :skip:

Not trying to argue this time around. Just an interesting topic for the Coli brehs.

Oh so you know about this already? :banderas:

I figured you had some gnostic beliefs in the past. :hubie:
I’ve studied abit yes, I don’t have gnostic beliefs in the sense of rejecting Genesis/mosaic law, rather I understand where they are coming from

There was a short time out there that everyone was witnessing and recording but the results are a mixed bag

The ME went through so much violence it’s hard to discern completely why

What do you mean by the “ME” :jbhmm:

Also Mandaeism >>>>>> Nasoraeanism or Sabianism

Sabians :ohhh:

Within the Middle East, but outside their community, the Mandaeans are more commonly known as the صُبَّة Ṣubba (singular: Ṣubbī), or as Sabians (الصابئة, al-Ṣābiʾa). The term Ṣubba is derived from an Aramaic root related to baptism.[16] The term Sabians derives from the mysterious religious group mentioned three times in the Quran alongside the Jews, the Christians and the Zoroastrians as a 'People of the Book',

Outside of Judaism, in the North African/Levantine/Middle East the results were a mixed bag yea I agree. That’s why we have Islam.... which is basically the modern day “BAG” per se with “Allah” stamped on it.

But seems like things always lead back to Egypt :banderas:

That’s cause Montu also represents One.

They along with Chinese the goat religious mathematicians. That said they had hella cults and didn’t really reel back until Akhenaten who was overwhelmingly unpopular. “Only your son knows you Neferkhepure”(beautiful are the creations of creative speech)

But That leaves every other living creature in a bind :pachaha:but that’s why I know that when they commissioned the Septuagint they were fully aware of all the Egyptian myths and still wrote it in a such a way that it is hidden.

Back to John the Baptist, it should be clear that there are multiple accounts of him before modern Christianity and the links to “Anup the Baptist” are probably not completely far fetched. Mandaeism and Sabina’s particularly take note of baptism as a focal point of communion with the most high. When I said ME I meant Middle East

Makes me wonder why Muslims don’t practice some type of baptism/immersion since they regard him as a prophet and maybe on a level higher than Jesus back in the day.

You’d think they’d carry on that tradition of Mandaeism and Sabiansim before them

And also since Jesus was technically baptized and they regard him as a prophet why wouldn’t they do the same?

Why wasn’t Muhammad baptized? Or was he? :jbhmm:

I guess Muslims version of the Christian “baptism” in theory is the pilgrimage to Mecca which seems like an extreme/over the top emotional declaration of their faith

Not sure why or how the Kabba stone represents washing sins away though :why:

It’s just a physical rock in Mecca. Maybe A Muslim can explain this :manny:

Share it.
I'll give you half the story, but that is as far as I can go with it
Herodotus also relates that when Sesostris defeated an army without much resistance he erected a pillar in their capital with a vulva on it to symbolize the fact that the army fought like women.[4] Pliny the Elder also makes mention of Sesostris, who, he claims, was defeated by Saulaces, a gold-rich king of Colchis.

I think it’s just an Arab pagan traditions from the region they couldn’t shake. Just like how they circle it like birds or something

It’s rooted in older religious traditions if you look it up.... I forget the details

And the Kabba in Yemen was destroyed so it’s not like it’s some special building designated for worship by Abraham either. It’s always been a place for idol worship

Now as for the actual black stone they kiss and rub on....... maybe you are on to something :leon:
