Who else here has NEVER owned /wanted a pair of Jordans?

Never owned a pair. I liked some versions of them but the price of them were never justifiable.

This shyt happened in elementary I mowed lawns and bought toys in those days, but I didn't give a fukk about Jordans my first job wasn't until senior year. Worked that shyt plus a warehouse job the summer I graduated for my first car, cash

In 1996 I thought Grant Hill's shoes were hotter than Jordans:

So I chose these instead of waiting in line for hours to drop $200 just to wear what everybody else was wearing.

1996 was the year where it felt like Jordans really popped-off, and since I chose a different shoe at that time, I just never came around to the Jordan brand -- every year afterwards I found a different reason to choose something else.

I'm 36 now and I don't even wear sneakers anymore.

Nah I never cared for Jordans because of the ridiculous "rent money" styled price. However I buy Nikes because I can always get two pairs for one price for at least no more than $120. I can't understand why would people spend damn near $250 and up for just one pair of sneakers that just looks stupid to me especially if there's sales where you can at least squeeze three or four pairs of Nikes if you're really trying to spend that $250 for instance, shyt at least walk out the store with three or four boxes instead of one looking like a fool.

There are only a few pairs of Jordans I would buy considering most Jordans look ugly to me.

I don't have a problem with buying shoes that are considered expensive though if they look good enough. Nothing cool about wearing cheap dusty clothes to me.

I bought the space jams a year or two ago and I literally wore them less than 5 times.
I wore them in the snow and this one dude told me I'm crazy

I see sneakers for what they are and they are just expensive pieces of raw material you can get for free from the Earth.

Same thing with jewerly.

I can never spend thousands on a diamond which is literally a creation of the Earth.

I live fifteen minutes from the Nike Headquarters and have never owned a pair of Nikes period. family friends with Nike store managers that could get me in whenever.

Been seeing a lot of my friends share how they gifted their kids or were gifted a pair themselves and it got me thinking on the topic I technically had a pair ONCE as a kid, but it didn't really count.


I played and watched football mostly coming up and when it came to basketball I admired Grant Hill and Reggie Miller () My pops would tell me that's who I should look up to, so I just went with it. I had their jerseys and rooted for them in the playoffs (the only time we'd really) watch, I wanted their jerseys, etc. so Jordan never had the same effect on me even though I knew he was better.

Anyways, one year my pops took me to the mall and bought me a pair. It was the 10's if I remember right, but possibly the 11's-- one of them for sure. Either way, them bytches were on clearance and I didn't realize till I got much older and looked back on it all. I came to school with them shyts on the next week on my and these muhfukkas were unbothered.


Me: "What's up?! Ya'll see I got some Jordan's this weekend "

Friends: "Yeah okay who cares "


Me: " What you mean??? They're JORDANS "

Friends: "Yeah, but those are the OLD ones "

I came home that day and told my pops I didn't want them anymore and we went thru a similar exchange-- Only he was like " fukk it, we can take them bytches RIGHT back if you don't want em "

And right back they went... I really was good okay with it though It wasn't till I got much older, and the hype for retros REALLY took off that I kept looking back on that incident and hitting the out how things changed. It still feels like I dodged a bullet tho. I got that energy outta my system before it could take full form , but I had friends with a whole damn collection no shade to any collectors/hypebeasts. Just curious to know who else had a similar experience.

The 10s are trash

Jordans were so expensive, I never got a pair as a child. I didn't even dare ask my parents for Jordans, because I knew the very idea was ridiculous. I started buying retros when I got my first job and I still do. I know I'm overcompensating, but I don't give a fukk, we were poor when I grew up and I'm making money now

In my old line of work, I met Bill Gates once as he was preparing for a conference. His whole outfit (jacket, jeans, shirt, sweater) looked like it came from Kohl's or JC Penney. He looked like a typical white guy. His shoes were some straight up bobo's! They looked like some knock off Paylessis.
I wonder what a woman would conclude about Mr. Gates by looking at his cheap shoes...
