This episode was wack. Now they're blaming Hammer for why Morgan fell out of the public eye. I was waiting for TV One to use pictures of Hammer when he was gangsta

Again with the Soul Train clips :heh:
And an Unsung on Baby Boy is pointless. Unsung compared to what? Who doesn't love Baby Boy?

I didn't take it as blaming Hammer... said Capitol Records shifted full attention his way while not to hers as they were set to come out at the same time... especially back then, this happened a lot because majors had a 'black music division' where they'd just lump all the black artists together and focus on who they wanted to out off the bunch. Arista Records was known for this too- Phyllis Hyman and Angela Bofill got pushed to the back when Whitney came out.

Hyman/Bofill/Whitney were in a similar lane. Hammer and Morgan were not.

The president of the label didn't even know who she was, yet we're led to believe Capitol was gonna give her a ton of attention if not for Hammer?

Angie Stone's situation was more in line with what you're saying than Morgan. Hell, the Khalif conflict was more in line than lazily saying she got thrown in the bushes because Hammer happened.

But that's the thing... back then, the black music division was lumped together. This includes rappers, singers, jazz, whoever. it was one department. It wasn't like 'here's a rapper, we'll focus on him over here... here's an R&B singer, so here's how we market this project'. it was all black music in a cluster. That's why there were so many artists back then that'd come and go quickly... they'd all get to come out and have a video or two but only certain ones would get the promo push. They were all in a limited division of a bigger company, and only the ones with MTV pop appeal were treated as priority.

But here's how I look at it. It wasn't like the Black Music Division got all the credit for Hammer going multi plat. The budget didn't open up for them. That and I didn't think Hammer slowed up other Black acts on Capitol. Freddie Jackson, Tracie Spencer, the Winans family, Young MC, etc. all got shine around the same time. Morgan didn't because they didn't know what to do with her. Note how around this time no matter who you were if you were on that sappy shyt you were getting phased out.

...yeah, that's for their OTHER show, "Unsung Hollywood".

I agree, "Baby Boy" doesn't deserve that. If anything, they should do one on "House Party" or some shyt.....or "Menace".....or "New Jack"....."Baby Boy" is a pretty overrated movie.
