Without answering for dude -

Prior to the final 5 games of the season, Obi cracked 20 minutes a game 7 times (they went 5-2) this season.

Without additional context -

He played 18 minutes in a game they won by 30 - Randle played 31 and they were up by 31 going into the 4th.

He played 8 minutes in a game they won by 24 - Randle played 33 and they were up by 23 going into the 4th.

He played 15 minutes in a game they won by 22 - Randle played 33 and they were up by 20 going into the 4th.

He played 13 minutes in a game they won by 24 - Randle played 35 minutes and they were up by 23 going into the 4th.

I picked these games because they were all games where the team was up big fairly early on. I don't know the minutes split, I don't know if he was coming off of his injury, I don't know what the circumstances were, but this stood out to me.

And that's not even considering pockets of playing small ball against another teams bench, playing him if he has it going and Randle doesn't, or any other circumstances that present over the course of an 7+ month long season and 82 games.

4 minutes a quarter isn't exactly a shyt ton of tape to go off of for a former lotto pick in his 3rd year. Season ending garbage time 40 point games may not necessarily sell teams on his ability when it matters. They could have thrown different lineups out there. They could have given him more leash. They could have not had him sit corner.

They could have done more. They chose not to. :manny:
I mean, fair, but it’s not like the entire bench was getting run in those blowouts too. Thibs is who he is. Love him or hate but he’s consistent. All I’m saying is, it wasn’t personal. And it’s funny how on one hand the fanbase is all “CAA Knicks” and crony-ism but the player signed with the team president’s son couldn’t even get run. I really love this front office.

Why? Because he's averaged 38% from three on over 5 attempts from three over the last three years and he'll be cost-effective.

Where is he supposed to play? Between IQ and Hart off the bench, unless IQ is featured in a package they use for a star. Then he'll play next to Hart and whatever backup PG they add...or Deuce.

You can't have 10-12 guys who need to play.

You only need 7-9. Because realistically there's only minutes distribution for 7-9.

You can't cash out IQ, Hart, and Dev. And just say coach gotta figure it out. Lol.

True, which is part of my larger issue with him.

It is what it is. We're not a laughingstock and I just have to take solace in that until better can be done. :manny:

Donte isn't signing in a vacuum. The Knicks are gonna look to consolidate some of this youth and IQ is arguably the most valuable asset they've got to include in a package. Donte is a cheap alternative, gives the FO the perimeter shooting that it's looking for, and only needs around 25 mpg to be happy.

It's the same as the Naz Reid rumor. He doesn't make a ton of sense as the roster is currently constructed. But if Robinson's contract becomes part of a bigger package, then there's room for him.

Neither of these rumors warrants outrage. They're good ideas for chasing cheap depth and flexible trade options.

They should definitely flip Obi for a piece or a pick. There's no route to him starting here(Randle ain't getting traded folks) and he's gonna be eligible for an extension shortly.
Yea, trade him and Q. Find a backup and a 2nd fodder PF that can play 2 min a game or use the game leaguers.

This is the part that always kills me.

Even if you don't think a player fits your long term needs, you still showcase in pockets to raise their value and see if someone bites. If they're going and the team is winning, let them go. It's a long season, let them shine, your favorites will inevitably shine.

So many of these coaches come across as emotional with this shyt and let personal vendettas or whatever the issue is fukk up opportunities for the team to get better.
Like all high ranking positions it’s ego.
