Because you’re here pushing the lie OP is pushing about a Parkinson’s specialist. Lmao. Been medical for almost 2 decades and I never heard of such a term. Never.
….??
I mean I think it would be clear they are referring to a
neurologist who
specializes in Parkinson’s or other movement disorders. Are you serious?
There are doctors who specialize in all sorts of various disorders and diseases. Like, what are you talking about?
Dystonia is another movement disorders that can be diagnosed and treated by a “dystonia specialist” i.e. a fukking neurologist who specializes in Dystonia.
Have you heard of a “
glaucoma specialist”? That is an
ophthalmologist who specializes in glaucoma. Because there are other eye disorders besides glaucoma that are studied and treated.
A retina specialist, for example, is another ophthalmologist who
specializes in studying/treating the retina.
There are various specialties:
-internal medicine
-pediatrics
-podiatry
-ophthalmology
-dermatology
-orthopedics
-gynecology
Etc
I mean the list goes on because there is literally a doctor for
EVERYTHING
Beyond that those doctors can choose to specialize in specific treatments, disorders, etc.
So your GP sends you to a specialist when they detect that something is wrong or needs special focus and they know it is outside of their scope.
I’m sorry- you’ve “
been medical for almost two decades”? I’m not one to ask personal questions on here because, again, this is a fukking forum and anyone can lie, but now I must ask:
What exactly does that mean? What do you do?
If you’ve been in medical settings for two decades you MUST have encountered doctors who specialize in certain things.
And even if you don’t work with them, you know that patients are referred out to specialists all the time.
In closing, referring to a doctor as a Parkinson’s specialist is just shorthand for “a neurologist who specializes in diagnosing and treating Parkinson’s Disease”.
Two words vs ten.
Aight. That’s my sign to get back to work.
