I’m all for free speech, but ten-twenty years ago you had a generation of club comics that heard one Lenny Bruce record, and thought that all being a notorious comic entailed was spewing racial epithets from behind a microphone.

Every major comic during the Bush-era, (Louis CK, Carlos Mencia, shock jocks, etc.) essentially got famous for saying outrageously offensive things for ratings. Mostly because they spend all their lives in dark open-mics in front of drunks and had no conception of how things work in real life, or how words can ultimately effect people; or they were well-aware, just too jaded and cynical to give a fukk.

This was epitomized in the absolutely despicable Michael Richards fiasco, and he wasn’t even a “blue” comic. Then you have Seinfeld trying his best to sweep it under the rug.
